The academic fertility practice has forever played a crucial role in the fertility field. The pursuits by those in academia have led to deeper insights into genetics, the development of ICSI, and has helped shape most of ART as we know it today.
But from the outside, the academic center appears to be full of bureaucracy and red tape, often translating into a lack of control for docs on the inside. If this is true, is it pushing away potential new doctors? What is the motivation to jump into this practice model?
On this episode of Inside Reproductive Health, Griffin talks to Dr. Kenan Omurtag of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Omurtag shares what he views as the pros of working in an academic clinic, as well as the downsides to working in an academic system. They also discuss the history of the model and what it will look like in the future as the world of fertility continues to grow.
