Martha Angelone is a Virginia native now converted to Texan and is now the 2022 World Champion Breakaway Roper! Martha joins us on in the LOOP to go back and tell her story, from her childhood rodeo days, through the college ranks, amatuer rodeos, and now the professional rodeos as a full time breakaway roper! 

Martha tells her story from the beginning, from riding English Horses and doing English Jumping Competitions, to roping with her Dad and sister. Martha had a lot of success in all of the rodeo events through high school, and that opened doors for college!  She has always wanted to rope for a living, and couldn't wait to get the opportunity, so she loaded up everything that she had, and headed south for college! 

Martha showed up in Texas with a 1500 Dodge Truck and a bumper pull trailer, one horse, and herself! When Martha was in college she had 3 full time jobs, went to school, and roped everyday, “It's not where you come from, it’s how hard you work.” Martha says. Martha started off in Alva, Ok then went to Altus, Ok and finally finished her degree at Weatherford College in Weatherford, Texas. 

After college Martha just kept working hard, training her own breakaway horses, and going to every roping that she could get to! Martha talks about how surreal it was to even think that she never dreamed that 3 years ago she would be able to travel full time down the rodeo road and call “Breakaway Roping” her full time career.  We talk about her professional breakaway roping career from making the inaugural 2020 NFBR Finals in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field, to Las Vegas in 2021, and 2022! 

Martha is truly a humble competitor, who has stayed true to her roots, and her love of roping. She has set so many records in breakaway roping, and many more to come!
