For probably more than 20 years, Frankie kept seeing the same guy running through our neighborhood. Then a few years ago, they finally met. Dr. David Barnes just turned 89 years old. He’s a World War II survivor who still remembers the London Blitz as a little boy in England, a physician and researcher, military officer, marathon runner, world traveler, and author of five books. And somehow… he still runs 13 miles. Frankie sat down in David's home and talked about surviving WWII, hearing air raid sirens in London as a child, medical discoveries throughout his career, what medicine still doesn’t know, the power of curiosity, and why he believes movement keeps people young mentally and physically. They also talked about: • his father surviving three torpedoed ships during WWII• running 21 marathons• doing his first marathon at 41 years old• why “motion is lotion” • the connection between movement and longevity• why curiosity and discovery still matter at 89This became much more than a conversation about running. It became a conversation about purpose, resilience, aging, discovery, and refusing to stop growing. Barnes’ autobiography “Insanity of Wars,” along with his books on scams and Covid, are available at: insanityofwars.com For his books “The 100 Benefits of Running” and “Pelvic Fractures,” contact: [email protected]
