Filmmakers Emma Smith & Damon Van Der Schuit came into the Big Brekky to discuss their short film Live from the Alice made locally that was screened at the inaugural Mparntwe Alice Springs International Film Festival (MASIFF) and premiered at Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF). The highlight has been the growing community support and upskilling for creatives in Alice Springs, that jhas occurred since their first short The First Drop in 2023.

8CCC Big Brekky caught up with Tomi Ngauma to get the lowdown on what to expect at the Desert Paradise Islands Vibes Showcase this Saturday 19 October at the Marian Centre OLSH. From 5pm, there will be prizes, raffles, a DJ, food - need to pre-order, an art exhibition and the main event of music and dance. Country Gospel Band have just released their long awaited second album. The self-titled album comes 22 years after the Alyawarr band's first release, and celebrates family and community. Recently rekindled under the encouragement of band member Kevin Ladd, the band consists of a close-knit group of friends who grew up in Epenarra community and have been performing together for over twenty years. Ladd shares their story on The Big Brekky from the 8CCC Barkly studio.

The inaugural Mparntwe Alice Springs International Film Festival (MASIFF) is in full swing, screening local and international films across three local cinemas: Araluen Arts Centre, the Alice Springs Cinema and Alice Springs Desert Park. 

Brought to us by Red Hot Arts, with support from Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Darwin Film Society, the Film Festival runs until 13 October.

Screening tomorrow at Araluen Theatre is Thou Shalt Not Steal, a special screening of Stan's original series written and directed by the ever unfolding talent, Mparntwe-born Dylan River. Dylan is joined by Kim Haworth, Creative Director of Red Hot Arts Central Australia, on The Big Brekky to tell us all about it.
