  • Episode 29: Does Clinical Yoga Belong in an Healthcare Paradigm plus Woman’s Health Issues, Dr. Lisa Holland, DPT

Dr Lisa Holland DPT discusses clinical yoga, micro practice, woman health issues besides pelvic floor, her CALM and KISS principles, role of woman at work and home, bio psycho social model, becoming a mentor guru and dealing with haters.
Today we talk to a doctor of physical therapy about a few firsts: cash practice in North Carolina, seriously integrating Yoga as a core part of her allopathic based PT clinic (after ten years of sports injury), and turning her woman’s health specialty (pelvic floor rehab) and passion into a guru mentor to other practitioners and mompreneurs.  Her name is Dr. Lisa Holland, PT, DPT, WHNC, C-IAYT, ERYT, CAP and she is sure to leave you with an opinion and a discussion with your peers after the show.
How did she handle the ego vs colleague pressure of being a unicorn that on the outside looks like a glorified yoga teacher.  Is there a difference between yoga classes at a gym or therapeutic yoga or yoga therapy vs yoga teaching?  If you can find your true self through yoga practice along with the training of deep core and other physical therapy modalities you can help a lot more people break through the compensation patterns that have been forming over the years.
‘You have to use desertion even when your mentor is giving advice.
A niche market that has been growing in popularity is women’s health, functional medicine  and pelvic floor issues, but what else does it mean to specialize in women’s health?
What does holistic in a bio-psycho-social model mean and how does that play into a womens complex 30 day hormone cycle?

  • Episode 28: Diabetic Neuropathy, Avoiding Amputation, and Foodie Dr. Tea Nguyen Podiatrist

Dr Tea Nguyen podiatrist specializes in diabetic wound care, why educates against the webMD diagnosis, her honest and forward speech to patients, fat relocation advances for surgical outcomes, and shares her martial and daily staff tips and foodie.
Dr Tea Nguyen is Fellowship trained in wound care particularly with diabetics.
Big reason why diabetics have the wounds that can require amputation is because of peripheral neuropathy and losing the pain sensitivity. One of the problem is a patient doesn’t know a cut may have happened and can’t see it because of back pain or poor vision and therefore they get systemic symptoms or a bad smell before they know something is wrong.
If you are diabetic, establish a relationship with a podiatrist to monitor your feet health.
Why is a physical therapist or chiropractor an essential member of the foot health team?
Misconceptions: being a women, looks to young and just clips nails.
Her special ability is being forward and honest with patients.  She is upfront with patients if amputation is a serious option for their foot and unfortunately has to have this very difficult conversation weekly.
Another issue she finds is the “webMD” self-diagnosis patient. Listen to find out more about this topic and she uses Instagram to not only warn people of common conditions that could be serious but much more. This topic around minute 16-17 really can be implemented by many doctor specialties.
She doesn’t train the staff, but she comments on how important open communication is with them so that everyone, especially the patients have a good experience.
Dr. Tea discusses the future of podiatry and the hope of more advanced fat relocation surgeries.
Dr. Tea always maximizes her days but admits being a surgeon requires someone to cover you and being really aware of scheduling the week prior to taking off.
Her key to happy marriage is that they make the effort to eat together at dinner and since they are both foodies, it works real well.  She also has a morning ritual that is powerful and simple, so listen to that.
When irritations stack up its easy to take it out on staff…find a way to refocus .

  • Episode 27: Team First Sara Mahmood, DDS Dentistry with Integrity

Dr Mahmood DDS continues Women’s Spotlight Month with topics of dentist integrity, why put the team first, BPA and mercury fillings, corporate vs private practice, her fav MBS class, inspiring book choices for women and why 4:30AM wake up.

Why did she have her staff take an emotional intellegence test and love language test? What is Dentistry with Integrity? And Why would she say putting the team first allows the patients to benefit even more?

What are BPA Free fillings and is the mercury silver filling toxic: Fact or Fiction? Implants and invisalign are explored as well.

Like most professional schools, there is a real lack of real world “what to expect” so she talks about some of these eye openers.

What’s the difference between Corporate Dentistry vs Private Practice… from ethical dilemmas, contracts and more.

Immediatly after graduating she enrolled to get her MBA at UT Dallas while learning the dental ropes in 3 offices in one year.  Principles of Hospital Administration was one of the best classes she took and employee engagement was top priority.

From Dr Britt’s book: Take care of your team and they will then take the best care of  the patients.  Bring staff closer to their own personal and professional goals and they will give patients the best experience.

Not every patient can afford a $2000 procedure, have options available.

Why you should take care of periodontal gum disease.

She uses a marketing company and is in the process of ramping that up including direct mail. She has a few pointers in the direct mail space.  Once again we hear the importance of staff that have been anchored in the community for many years.  What is the magic formula when you need to fire someone?

Find a partner that will encourage your goals and love to spend time with.  Great to have someone that you can talk to about everything and wade through the junk and focus on the goals.  Yes, you can have a family and a professional career and a kid needs a father so let your husband be a dad.

  • Episode 25: Your Host Dr. Justin Trosclair’s Back Story, Why China, Advice, First Solo Show and Cohost

Justin Trosclair, DC explains adjustment research, his 3 year integrative Hospital job in China, marketing for success, coaches, divorce lessons, interracial marriage with cultural differences, 21 point neck adjustment and authoring books.

Dr Justin Trosclair had 3 main reasons on becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. He graduated from Louisiana State University, LSU – Geaux Tigers and from Texas Chiropractic College a medipractor school outside of Houston, TX.
He goes through his take on innate intelligence, what does the research say about what is actually occurring when a joint is moved by a chiropractic manipulation or adjustment.  Does Dr. Justin feel like rehab, cold laser and spinal decompression are important in the clinic?  Dr. Trosclair discusses how and why he recommends the type and amount of care he does and how to communicate with the patients about the top 4 questions they all have and touches briefly on maintenance care.
Hear his advice on why he moved away from home and purchased a clinic in a city and state that he knew no one.  As far as marketing goes, he recommends bni.com, networking events, social media (he discusses two techniques to maximize Instagram and facebook), marketing directly to medical doctors and also discusses some poor marketing choices.
Hiring a coach or having a mentor is highly important to him and listen to what he thinks you should look for in that decision.
Students should create a club that brings local mentor level local doctors to the school once a month and give a seminar.
What is his 21 Point Upper Neck Headache Scan?  He was certified in Activator Methods  for many years during his time in Colorado (learn more at his clinic site) and is now a Certified Instrument Adjustor by Neuromechanical Innovations, home of the Impulse IQ adjusting instruments.
Dr. Justin opens up and discusses his divorce, the impact it had on the clinic, his decision to embrace counseling and a great divorce recovery group and how his Christianity was affected and the importance of small groups.
What was the reason for moving to China to work in a hospital job especially since he doesn’t speak Chinese?  Why has he been there for 3 years?  He discusses what it’s like to work in a hospital job and how to get around and communicate with a full time translator at your side.  How do you stay in contact with people back home and avoid or deal with home sickness and not being able to communicate well.
Part of the reasons for a China Hospital job after selling the Colorado clinic was: cultural experience, travel, getting hospital interdisciplinary experience that may land him a great integrative DC/ PT job or a hospital job in USA at some point in the future, and save money so he can potentially open his own clinic one day without a bank loan.
In his free time he wrote a book  Today’s Choices, Tomorrow’s Health: Small steps to improve health, food choices and exercise.  He talks a bit about that and you can visit this page to watch a great video explaining it more.  Feel free to put your email and get a PDF of four chapters for free or you can get the full version here Full Length Book. A lot of the story is based on his own personal experience and the blueprints he created for himself that can be used by others.
Dr. Justin is writing a no needle acupuncture book and his cohost JingJing, JJ, shares more about that for him.  Right now this at home no needle acupuncture book is fairly finished  in beta stages and is excited to release it so check back later on his social media to see when it is relea...
