  • Episode 24: Jenny Li DC Creating a Niche Market in the Most Expensive City in the World

Dr. Jenny Li has experience in 3 countries, opened a clinic as a foreigner, carved out a niche, social media strategies and plunders, her body building passion, 5 year goals and how to get your own ideal clients and being unique to your competition.
Dr. Jenny Li attended Iowa State University then Palmer Chiropractic after spending her first 13 years in china and moving to America with her parents and becoming a citizen.
She did an eye opening mission trip in Peru with Liam Strobel. Spent a year in Hong Kong (not the greatest experience but a great political chiropractic organization) and a year at a huge clinic in Singapore. Only four professions can use the Term Doctor in Hong Kong and chiropractic is one of them. Singapore is a clean, safe and the most expensive city in the world. Dr. Li discusses the ups and downs of working as an associate in a foreign country. Describes her own journey in opening up a clinic in country not of her own as her first personally owned clinic, luckily they pretty much all speak English.
Dr. Jenny Li goes into detail about a couple gaffes that cost her a lot of money during those first 6 months and how she dug her way out. We spend ample time talking about creating a niche in your community, how to find your passion to get that niche, how to build your own brand, detailed social media strategies (including video), networking groups like bni.com, compares a restaurant referral to doctors office and more.
She goes into detail about how to carve your own pie of ideal clients instead of going after the crumbs. Who are your ideal customers, where do they hang out, how do you access information, show up where they hang out (physical and digital).
She and her husband (also works as a Chiropractor in the clinic) are both award winning aesthetic body builders. They are the in the process of being the official clinic of NABBA (National Amateur Body-Builders’ Association) and she was the first chiropractor to compete in WFF (World Fitness Federation). She talks about her 3 competitions in one year and her reasons to not use steroids. Also, what are common injuries to body builders and a good angel to appeal to those patients.
Why did she choose to focus on Dr. Jeff, her husband, as the Picture of the clinic. Learn her view on year long plans versus say a 12 visit plan. Would she recommend working abroad, starting out on your own directly upon graduation or work for someone else? Work on yourself and learn what you really want, how to be super authentic within yourself; shed that false self. Get your doctor skills on point.
She goes into detail about how to carve your own niche pie of ideal clients instead of going after the crumbs. Create your own pie.
Stay tuned to the end for her inspiring 5 year goals, views on the type of and how to hire a coach (doesn’t have to be a chiro coach) and the future of chiropractic.
Less injury and quicker recovery with chiropractic, spine in optimal condition.

  • Episode 22: Advocate VS Rehabilitation- What’s the Line with Counseling Sex Offenders, Forensic Psychologist Dr. Shiloh Catanese

Dr. Shiloh Catanese is a licensed Forensic Psychologist specializing in sex offender crimes, aka sort of a real life Sweets from Bones, with a Doctorate from Alliant International University in Los Angeles. Her career has taken several paths. From her aspirations for FBI (which she qualified for) to training and facilitating students pursuing her same expertise, to consulting with law enforcement agencies and training others about forensic psychology. Her private practice and her main job are both interrelated with consulting sex offender prior to them going to prison and helping the families cope with that same reality. She is CASOMB certified.

She makes a point to say, she is not advocating for these people to get lesser sentences and all that, but prepares them mentally for prison and counsels them so they do not become repeat offenders.

Does counseling happen in prison? Does porn and childhood abuse make it more likely to be a sex offender or is it opportunistic?
How does she deal with such heavy emotional content day in and day out? Can she predict who will become a sex offender or who will do it again?
I was asked what the percent is for repeaters in sexual offenses and I was dead wrong.

She has a Blog about how to take a break from work with travel to avoid the burnout : A Distant Mentality

  • Episode 20 Myofascial Adhesions, Mechanoreceptor Reset Frank Osborne Mark Butler DPT Explain HawkGrips IASTM

Frank Osborne and Mark Butler DPT talks to Dr Trosclair on A Doctors Perspective Podcast

Hawkgrips offer an innovative cross grip pattern on their stainless steel instruments so that they aren’t so slick.  This makes the instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation tools easier on the clinicians hands because they don’t have to grip so hard to keep the tools from slipping.  Twelve tools with all sorts of sizes, patterns, concave, convex angles and more to give you the optimal angles to work on the myofascial issues.

The first sale was in 2012 after two years of product development. He discusses his tragic ski accident story and how that was the catalyst to create these Hawkgrips IASTM instruments.

Fascinating story of how he was kind of forced into offering seminars and his now unique approach to continuing education for his tools versus how most companies approach it. Courses have been given at the white house, walter reed, delta force, Yankees, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and more.

Hawkgrips doesn’t want to be another “me too” of products; there are enough kinesio tape products. I only want to produce products that are better than what’s already in the rehab market or something unique. New on the market is a water based emolument called HawkHydro. HawkHydro will make for easy clean up so you can do muscle stim or kinesio tape afterwards.

Take good care of your customers and gain word of mouth- best advertising.  Most proud of the relationships built over the last few years with clients.  His advice on staff: Hire slowly , fire quickly.

Dr. Mark Butler DPT works at select medical Novacare. All of his seminars and teaching experience etc are mentioned on the show, so listen to it.

The Technique of Hawkgrips IASTM started as a scar adhesion removal system but now the science is starting to show that it’s a neuromuscular interaction and change that is causing most of the benefits.  The courses are set up as a problem solving course, as well as a technique course to learn how to hold and use the instruments, but practical application is built for you to learn concepts not cookie cutter blueprints.

A big term is mechano-transduction.  A cellular response occurs when we sheer or stress the cell.  The basic peptides of pain or mechano-sensitive.

Mark and I go in-depth into how and why the instruments work, based on science, theory as well as clinical experience.  Movement normalizes, normalization of tissue causes a healing response  (it gets upgraded) , changes in muscle tone balance out and this all equates to getting a much more rapid return to function.  I highly suggest listening to the second half because it’s pretty much some great neurology overview and some new concepts about how manipulating soft tissue creates a neurological change and rewiring the nervous system.
