David Marcarian, creator of the Myovision scan, got his undergraduate degree in physics and a master in psycho-physiology. Learn how he discovered and implemented surface EMG during his NHA grant and NASA employment at age 26.  It’s a great story about jets, science and removing electrical interference and stumbling upon creating a device that can be used to measure muscle and nerve excitability or lack thereof.  The company has advanced over the years and has dynamic range of motion device to measure range of motion but also is able to measure if muscles are firing in the correct sequence, DynaROM . This way you can tell if someone is bending over and faking a muscle injury or if it is real.  His device is in the AMA book as a standard for measuring range of motion and it correlates .99 with VAS score.  State of Florida tried to disprove the technology which would have had far reaching consequences on the chiropractic profession but David won all the way to the Supreme Court which is all documented here.   Myovision is being used a lot by physiatrists and chiropractors and his other flagship product Proformavision is used in twelve hospitals.

DynaROM is for objective data and the sEMG is to help keep patients focused on function versus symptoms by showing objective data on how they are progressing. Objective data is more important than dogma.  However, just because you can’t measure something doesn’t mean it does not exist, it’s a real phenomenon: he learned that from NASA.  They found that after 10 seconds post adjustment muscle activity was reduced by 30 percent.

He will be featured as an expert witness on the new FOX show: You the Jury.

Your goals need to be about a bigger mission, “the why” do you do things. What’s the purpose of that actual goal? Material possessions can be a marker that you hit certain millstones but it won’t sustain you. Money is a good measurement tool but its not the ultimate goal

Dr. Michael gives advice on how to get involved with local athletes.  He recommends students get a mentor or a coach that you can really learn from so you can make the learning curve quicker.

To have more balance, you have to trust more people.  Work life integration is more important than trying to balance it.  if you integrate both so that work is on purpose then a vacation just amplifies life even more. Make your vacations meaningful; learn something while you are there.

Before graduating, students need to learn time management with patients as well as knowing which tests to order for different conditions.   You can’t order everything.  Doctors, make sure you schedule down time otherwise time will get away from you and the burnout happens.

Episode 09: Why Authenticity is your Tipping Point for Growth

Doctor of Chiropractic, Palmer Graduate, RJ Gelinas joins us on the podcast and discusses how a principled chiropractor practices.  Spoiler: The main difference being someone who almost exclusively delivers an adjustment versus a doctor who might do decompression, cold laser or lots of rehab.

He suggests to students but also practices it himself, to listen to 60 straight days of Sigafoose and BJ Palmer so that you can really stay focused on the power of the adjustment.  You can listen to some of the highlight reels on SigTalks Podcast.  Dr RJ spent many hours mastering the Tonal Integrative Correction (TIC) Technique by Jason Sabo to adjust Atlas, C1, so that the nervous system can do its job and let the body function better. He discusses a little about his Christian mission trip to Kenya via Flatirons Church, The Crucible Project men’s retreat and how it affects his life.

His wife is also a chiropractor and has a blog called InnateMom  that discusses health, raising kids in an optimal health mindset, picking the right food, recipes and more.  Together they do a daily gratitude journal and communicate and pray together for at least 30  minutes everyday after the kids go to sleep.

Dr. Gelinas and his brother created a business called Tipping Point Practice.  It is not another coaching company but instead helps you train and hire your staff, holds you  accountable for certain practice management aspects and frees you up to be a doctor and lets TPP be the manager to stream line systems.  Their goal is to help offices reach the tipping point of marketing domination where people  flood in and you are making an impact on the health of the community.  He mentioned FOMO and how that relates to marketing, but you have to listen to find out how.  Being authentic is the key to success.  Be yourself and people will be attracted to you, whether that’s at health screenings, lunch and learns or public speaking.  He also found that sticking to one presentation/ lecture was better than always trying to make a new one.
