Recently I heard a wonderful notion that what you believe others are capable of is actually a reflection of what you believe you're capable of. So, if you don't think people can change it's because YOU believe you can't change. Once you recognize this noble truth, you can start to elevate yourself AND others around you. Call it hope but it does work. Recognizing this and embracing it allows you to be happy in life, which brings up a great tangent. I know from my experience that whenever I see people who are joyful I say to myself it's because their life is easy. Not the case! That is a limiting belief and a reflection of myself in that worldview. Nay! Everyone's life is hard, it's just a matter of the choice you make. Will you be miserable or will you find joy? Join me as I explore these notions further and afterwards, please be sure to comment with any thoughts or questions you may have. Or hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek. I’d love to hear from you!
Bob Iger recently stepped down as the CEO of The Walt Disney Company (https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/25/media/bob-iger-bob-chapek-disney-ceo/index.html), but he will remain as the executive chairman of the company until the end of 2021. As such, there's speculation as to what his focus will be on since he's said he will prioritize the creative side. Hollywood Reporter came out with an article speculating that he will give all his attention to fixing Disney+ (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/kim-masters-bob-igers-exit-why-did-disneys-announcement-feel-rushed-1283424). That assumes Disney+ needs fixing. Is that the case, since they have 28 million subscribers already? Join me as I highlight the article and offer my thoughts to some of the speculation. Feel free to offer your two cents as well, whether in the comment section on hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek. And for more free resources, tips, etc, visit my website: http://philsvitek.com.
I keep saying it, but the end is coming—I'm almost done with my first film! As such, I reflect back on the final parts, namely how temp love affects my appreciation of the final product. But I also discuss the future of how I'm going about new projects. And in between I touch upon the Coronavirus and it's effect on the Cannes Film Fest, my work, etc. Also, I talk about seeing my friend Ian Keiser's film called Saint Frances (http://saintfrances.oscilloscope.net) which lead me into a discussion on the importance of supporting indie films in theatres. If you have any questions, thoughts, etc don't hesitate to write. For more of my lessons/tips/etc subscribe/follow on social media @PhilSvitek.
Don Miguel Ruiz Jr wrote a book called The Little Book of Wisdom in which he shares many of his father's teachings. There's a story in there that I heard recently and it resonated with me about how we allow ourselves to pay for other people's choices. I paraphrase the story and then talk about the lesson and how I'm applying it to my life. Furthermore, I invite you to stop paying for other's choices as well. Jay Shetty is someone I admire a lot and he has this notion that "I am" are the two most powerful words in English. This is based on the power of words. Join me for this quick lesson as I explain why "I am" are powerful words and more importantly how that's impacted my life, plus how it can impact yours. Recently, I asked myself a question: am I addicted to self help? I listen to all kinds of podcasts, read books, post tons of content on it, etc. But I'd been noticing I wasn't having the same aaa-ha moments I was before and that started making me feel down. Why was that, I asked myself? Because I expected every new thing to resonate in the same way. I was craving it. Ironically, but needing that fix, I wasn't being present and really taking in to what I was consuming. So of course I couldn't get the epiphany I was seeking. Once I noticed that about myself, I started becoming aware again and open! With this self-reflection video, I explore these ideas in detail since I know I'm not the only one to have felt this way. I hope that it helps you. By all means, feel free to ask questions whether down in the comment section of hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek. Author Robin DiAngelo (https://robindiangelo.com/) wrote a book called "White Fragility" where she examines why white people as afraid to talk about racism. It's a very interesting perspective that I'd not considered before her because it forces society to really look into a mirror in close proximity. Sure, the KKK are racist. But at least they're easy to spot. But when you don't vote, that's a form of racism. When I first heard that, my mind was blown. Namely because how that type of racism is much more commonplace than the KKK and affects for more people. That form of racism holds the very structure of our society. But it's not society, it's really us. We need to talk about these realities in order to bring them to light. And that's what I invite you to do with me via this self reflection. Please, please, please comment down below with your opinions on this subject. It's a tricky one for sure but if we're all honest, kind, compassionate and patient, I believe we all stand to benefit. Let's use this as a means of self discovery rather than shame and hatred. Learning expert Jim Kwik believes that if we knew how powerful our brains truly were, we’d not feed it negative thoughts because of how they take hold in our wiring. As an example of such a phenomenon, he learned to rephrase any perceived problem in life he encountered as a puzzle instead. The word problem leads us towards something we dread, are upset by, etc. But a puzzle invites us to a solution. A simple shift like this unlocks us. So, join me for this episode as I explore this notion fully. Afterwards, please be sure to comment with any thoughts or questions you may have. Or hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek. I have no idea how I haven't heard of Byron Katie's work until recently. But I have now and it's made a seismic shift in my life because of how I can question the beliefs within me. With this episode, I share what lead me down this path, which was oddly enough thanks to a podcast episode with Jada Pinkett-Smith on Jay Shetty's ON PURPOSE show. Then I discuss the profound impact Jada's insights had on me and how Byron Katie's questioning method allows me to do the deep work all of us should be doing. And the best part, it's free and simple. Simple yes, but not easy. It's call work for a reason. But when you do the work, you will be one step closer to freedom. Trust me. I'm experiencing it. This vlog WAS supposed to be dedicated to discussing how I finalize my first feature film... BUT instead it's about how a personal matter came up last week that really affected me and I needed to deal with it. Now, if you're just reading this, I DO NOT reveal what the issue was. Sorry for those looking for gossip. Instead I talk about how it affected me and what strategies I did to resolve it. It was a nice reminder of why it's imperative to master mental fortitude. At the end of the episode though, I do offer a small update on the film though. If you have any questions, thoughts, etc don't hesitate to write.
