  • Why Documentaries Matter (So Watch Them)

Documentaries are a huge part of my past—both from a consumption standpoint and creation one as well. At the age of 15, I got to work on my first documentary. And from there I had the privilege of working on others, which informed my filmmaking knowledge. As a final product, documentaries are great because good or bad, you'll always learn something. This is why documentaries matter. They inform us. They preserve history. Do you watch them? Is so which ones? If not, why haven't you? Hit me up on social media and let me know (@PhilSvitek). Also, I'd love if you checked out my 5 minute short documentary about a mountain bookstore in Paris: https://youtu.be/0LNa2KFR4hY.

  • Redefining Time Management: Accounting for Attention & Energy to Become More Productive

We have a terrible consensus in thinking that managing our calendar is proper time management. It's not. We have to account for our attention and our energy as well if we're to be truly productive. In this lesson, my comedian friend Will Abeles (@WillAbelesComedy) joins me to discuss how he views time management and how the tricks he applies to his life to become more productive. I also share mine as well. While a short episode, it's jam-packed with key insights. But feel free to ask me any questions or offer some of your thoughts. • We're All Ordinary... So Why Do We Pretend We Need to Be EXTRA-ordinary (ft. Comedian Will Abeles)

There's such an emphasis for all of us to be so much more than ordinary and I hate this because while we're all capable of greatness, we're all ordinary people at the end of the day. We all have the same potential. Certainly Brene Brown agrees with this notion. And in this episode, my comedian friend Will Abeles (@WillAbelesComedy) and I discuss the idea the we're all ordinary and how that's a good thing. We examine this from various perspectives to highlight the many benefits from this line of thinking. Let me know if you have any questions of if you've done it, please share your experience. • You Don't Have to Like Your Losses: A Phil Svitek Vlog

I remember seeing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and loving the line "You lost today kid. But that doesn't mean you have to like it." That's how I sum up my past week. But in order for this not to be a venting session, I've brought in a college friend of mine, Will Abeles (@WillAbelesComedy). He's a comedian and while we catch up on life, we also share insights into how to make it in the entertainment industry. Will shares his idea to move away from New York City and how he's assessing where to move. Plus so much more. So check it out. If you have any questions, thoughts, etc don't hesitate to write. Will is also joining me on a few more episodes so come back for those as well. For more of my lessons/tips/etc subscribe/follow on social media @PhilSvitek.

  • A Sustainable Yet Charitable Business Model from Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi is an incredible musician, but even more amazing human being. While I love charities that help people and fight for causes, JBJ has found a way to do just that while keeping the model of it sustainable financially. Charities depend on donations. JBJ's Soul Kitchen is an actual sustainable business model that does so much good for people. Not only that, it create community by allowing everyone to feel on the same level aka actual human beings no matter their life circumstances. I'm really in awe of this and want more people to know about it because we're humans first, content creators second and the world sure could use more kindness in it. To check out JBJ Soul Kitchen, go here: https://jbjsoulkitchen.org/. • Don't Ever Coast... Too Many People Do and it Bites Them In the Ass! Keep a Side Hustle

Far too often I've seen people in the entertainment industry reach a goal and then coast. They take their foot off the gas pedal thinking they've made it, only to be blindsided in due time. Don't do this. Never get complacent If your dream is to be a content creator, you must keep creating. Always have your own side projects in addition to your work. Make work your priority, always. But devote time to your projects as well. Like with investing, this is called diversifying. If you don't, you won't like the results. Trust me. I've seen it. • How I Make Content at Scale & You Can Too Thanks to Gary Vee's Content Model

For a long time, I looked down at social media. I didn't think it was a valid way of distributing quality content. I admit I was wrong. It is. And then I started publishing things myself. But I only did it once a week. I wanted to do more, but it felt too much. Like somehow the quality would suffer. And while I was introduced to GaryVee a while ago, someone who advocates creating content at scale, I just didn't think I could. Then he published two how-to-guides on this very thing and my mind was unlocked. Now I batch all my content and it's simple. And you could do it too! (Here's the links to the guides: https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/the-garyvee-content-strategy-how-to-grow-and-distribute-your-brands-social-media-content/ & https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/how-to-create-64-pieces-of-content-in-a-day/). • What's the Difference Between a Champion & a Mentor???

There's a fundamental difference between a champion and a mentor? Do you know what it is? Chances are probably not. Most of us think we have mentors when in fact they are champions. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but you must be aware of there difference because there may come a time when it impacts you greatly without you even knowing it. So check out this quick lesson! Feel free to ask me any questions or offer some of your thoughts. And for more free resources from your 360 creative coach, check out my website at http://philsvitek.com.

  • Why It’s Imperative You Assess Every Outcome, Especially Victories

We have a bad habit, or at least I certainly do, to not fix something if it ain’t broken. And I typically think that if I’m getting the desired results that nothing is broken. This is far from the truth because it could be sheer luck. Many successful people, like Ray Dalio, talk about the importance of making sure that the process has quality. Pep Guardiola, a world class soccer (akak football) coach (for Manchester City) is notorious for making sure his players do everything correctly even during victory. I’ve started doing this and so should you. Check out this episode as I expand on this notion. And please let me know your thoughts, whether in the comment section or hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek. I’d love to hear from you!

  • Seeing the Fruits of Your Labor: A Phil Svitek Vlog

There comes a point in any creative journey where the project you're working on really starts to come together. It's not longer just disjointed pieces here and there but part of a larger whole. I'm experiencing that now with two of my projects and it's exciting. The first is a movie, the other my novel. I discuss how ADR made my movie truly watchable now. I also go into the myths of ADR. As far as my novel, I give some thoughts/pointers on query letters. And I even manage to talk about a setback that's happened but how my friends and I are handling it. If you have any questions, thoughts, etc don't hesitate to write. For more of my lessons/tips/etc subscribe/follow on social media @PhilSvitek.
