In this episode, we hear from Catholic convert, priest, author and blogger Fr. Dwight Longenecker. We hear about his journey from an Evangelical Protestant to Anglican priest to the Catholic Church and Catholic priesthood. We learn about Fr. Longenecker's love for literature and for writing, and in particular his books commenting on our current secular age riddled with atheism and materialism. We also hear about how St. John Paul II understood the false ideas that underlie our current cultural crisis and how he sought to correct them.

"I was brought up in an Evangelical home in Pennsylvania. After graduating from the fundamentalist Bob Jones University with a degree in Speech and English, I went to study theology at Oxford University. Eventually I was  ordained as an Anglican priest and served as a curate, a school chaplain in Cambridge and a country parson on the Isle of Wight."

"Realizing that the Anglican Church and I were on divergent paths, in 1995 I and my family were received into the Catholic Church. For ten years we continued to live in England where I worked as a freelance writer and charity worker. Then in 2006 the door opened to return to the USA and be ordained as a Catholic priest."

Kelly Wahlquist is the founder of the national women’s ministry WINE: Women In the New Evangelization, the Director for the Archbishop Flynn Catechetical Institute in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and a contributing writer for Catholicmom.com.  

Kelly is the author of Created to Relate: God’s Design for Peace & Joy, which encourages and inspires women to live fully their beautiful God-given gifts for building relationships, and editor of Walk in Her Sandals: Experiencing the Passion of Christ through the Eyes of Women and Gaze Upon Jesus: Experiencing Christ’s Childhood through the Eyes of Women, which are innovative collaborative works that allow women to enter into their relationship with Jesus in the way in which they were created to—as women.

Ralph Martin is the president of Renewal Ministries, an organization devoted to Catholic renewal and evangelization. Renewal Ministries is the sponsor of The Choices We Face, a widely viewed weekly Catholic television and radio program distributed throughout the world, and engages in a wide variety of mission work in more than thirty countries.

Ralph is also the director of Graduate Theology Programs in Evangelization and a professor of theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in the Archdiocese of Detroit (www.shms.edu). He holds a doctorate in theology from the Angelicum University in Rome.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Ralph as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization, and he continues to serve in this capacity. Ralph also was appointed as a theological expert for the Synod on the New Evangelization.

He is the author of the widely read The Fulfillment of All Desire: A Guidebook for the Journey to God Based on the Wisdom of the Saints, and many books on spirituality and evangelization, such as Will Many Be Saved? What Vatican II Actually Teaches and Its Implications for the New Evangelization, and The Urgency of the New Evangelization, as well as many articles in scholarly and popular publications. His most recent book, A Church in Crisis: Pathways Forward, examines the forces working to undermine the Body of Christ while also using both Scripture and Tradition to fortify the faithful.

Ralph and his wife, Anne, reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and have six children and nineteen grandchildren.

In this episode, we hear the vocation story of Fr. Angelus Montgomery, CFR, how he and his brother (Fr. Innocent) were led to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and the work they do to help brothers discern God's voice leading them. We learn about the founding of this community by Fr. Benedict Groeschel and Fr. Andrew Apostoli, about the life and spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi, and about the call to perfect charity, which is holiness.

Fr. Angelus Montgomery, CFR, a Loras College alumnus (’07) and dynamic preacher, speaker and EWTN show co-host. 

Fr. Angelus began to sense the call to priesthood in his junior year of college and eventually felt attracted to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, a religious order founded by the late Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR. After entering the community and given his new name in religious life, now Fr. Angelus was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York in May 2018.

Fr. Angelus and his brother have reached out to millennials through their “Icons Spotlight” television program on EWTN and the internet, and a radio show, “Icons Impact” which airs in New Jersey and other states. Together with a Franciscan confrere, they began co-hosting EWTN’s “Sunday Night Prime” this past year, succeeding Fr. Groeschel.
