In this episode, Alex talks to Leah Commandeur, who is a loyal member of Spare Ribs Club. Leah works as a runner and team assistant for an independent creative business that focuses on advertising, having graduated with a BA in English Literature and Drama from Dublin. She loves reading, cooking for her friends, and writing when she has the time.

We discuss Leah's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a guest list of literary icons; Fleabag, Nora Ephron and Greta Gerwig. Set against a soundtrack of Fiona Apple, Lauren Hill and Pillow Queens, Leah and her guests start with tap water from Leah's grandparents' tap in Tallaght, Dublin, and cheap white wine, before feasting on Dusty Knuckle sourdough with butter and olive oil, Asian-inspired burrata, the gnudi from Jolene, her Oma's cheesy creamy baked courgettes, and finishing with almond orange cake and lavender icecream, plus a spicy margarita. We discuss Leah's love of literature and reading, and how it connects with her own personal feminism.

We discuss Eleanor's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a very fun guest list; actor Emma Thompson, musician Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Self Esteem) and the Queen herself, singer-songwriter Beyonce. Cosi’s Odyssey reimagines the ancient world for a modern audience, to show people how sexy, ridiculous and compelling ancient history really is! She’s especially passionate about the intersection of sexuality, body positivity, art and mythology. She aims to make the field of classics more accessible and engaging by popularising archaeology, history and mythology. She hosts events, makes and sells products, writes a blog, directs photoshoots and makes videos, all with this goal in mind.

We discuss Cosi's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a wonderfully fierce guest list of ancient queens; Boudicca, queen of the Iceni tribe, Hatshepsut, fifth Pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, and Cleopatra, Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. In this episode, Alex talks to Ghanaian feminist writer and blogger, Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah. In in 2022 she was listed by the BBC as one of the 100 most influential and inspiring women around the world. She co-founded the award-winning blog, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, and has written for The Guardian, Open Democracy, Feminist Africa and This is Africa, and other publications. Her book, The Sex Lives of African Women, was published in 2021. An Economist Best Book of the Year, it was hailed as "Touching, joyful, defiant—and honest,” celebrating African women’s unique journeys towards sexual pleasure and liberation in an empowering and subversive collection of intimate stories.

We discuss Nana's dream feminist dinner party, starting with some wonderful guests; Rita Nketia, a queer activist from Ghana, Rose Afriyie, a writer and social impact consultant and the poet and activist Maya Angelou. Against a backdrop of Ogi, Narah and Ammarae, Nana and her guests feast on calamari, couscous, grilled chicken and ice cream. We discuss her book, and the world of female sexuality and gender activism.

She hosts regular supper clubs with Spare Ribs Club, where she creates feasting menus based on the themes in the work of literature we’re discussing that month.

Lara is also a contributor to the Guardian, Independent, Times Literary Supplement, Vice, Dazed and others.
