Welcome to Episode 6 of A Seat At The Table with Spare Ribs Club!
In this podcast series, creator of Spare Ribs Club Alex Holker talks to guests about their dream feminist dinner party. From their 3 feminist guests, the 3 tunes that will be on repeat all evening, and the 3 courses being served, this podcast brings together conversations around feminism, female friendship and food.
In this episode, Alex talks to Cosima Carnegie (aka Cosi's Odyssey). Cosi’s Odyssey reimagines the ancient world for a modern audience, to show people how sexy, ridiculous and compelling ancient history really is! She’s especially passionate about the intersection of sexuality, body positivity, art and mythology. She aims to make the field of classics more accessible and engaging by popularising archaeology, history and mythology. She hosts events, makes and sells products, writes a blog, directs photoshoots and makes videos, all with this goal in mind.
We discuss Cosi's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a wonderfully fierce guest list of ancient queens; Boudicca, queen of the Iceni tribe, Hatshepsut, fifth Pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, and Cleopatra, Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. Hosted in a cavernous, candlelit banquet hall, and set against a soundtrack of ancient lyre music, Cosi and her guests feast on champagne and oysters, roast lamb with all the trimmings and molten chocolate fondant with salted caramel. We discuss the incredible stories of her three guests, the importance of making classicism and the ancient world accessible, and bridging the gap between the modern and ancient world to undo the 'bad press' given to women throughout ancient history.
