In this episode, Alex talks to Finn Mackay. Finn is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West of England, and they are the author of a new book from Bloomsbury; "Female Masculinities and the Gender Wars". Finn has a background in feminist activism, having founded the London Feminist Network and the revived London Reclaim the Night in 2004.

We discuss Finn's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a guest list of writers and activists; American feminist writers bell hooks and Kate Millett, and gender theorist Kate Bornstein. Set in an huge imagined home, against a soundtrack of La Roux, Gloria Gaynor and Candi Staton, they start with Pizza Express dough balls and tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by a vegetable lasagne and garlic bread, finishing with raspberry pavlova. We discuss Finn's radical feminism, their relationship with gender politics, their feminist parenting, and advice for younger feminists in 2023.

In this episode, Alex talks to Amanda Daud. Amanda is a camera assistant and documentary filmmaker based in Glasgow. She works in the Film and TV industry within the camera department, and has worked on shows such as Black Mirror, The Chemistry of Death and Anansi Boys. She graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in anthropology, and she is passionate about interrogating its postcolonial relations with film. Within her own filmmaking practice, she is motivated by those at the margins of canonical anthropology and documentary film, and is constantly inspired by the ways in which they interrogate their ‘Other/Outsider-ness’.

We discuss Amanda's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a guest list of poets and filmmakers; writer Audre Lorde, and filmmakers Cheryl Dunye and Trinh T Minh-ha. Set in an imagined rural lakehouse, against a soundtrack of Nicki Minaj, SZA and Samirah Raheem, they start with vegan nuggets and cauliflower wings, followed by a customisable Beyond Burger station, finishing with homemade lemon drizzle cake and vanilla icecream. We discuss Amanda's interest in film and documentary-making, the societal pressures on women of colour, and the importance of rest and healing in the feminist fight.

In this episode, Alex talks to Dr. Alex Ketchum. Alex is a professor at the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies of McGill University. She is the Director of the Just Feminist Tech and Scholarship Lab and the organizer of Disrupting Disruptions: The Feminist and Accessible Publishing, Communications, and Tech Speaker and Workshop Series. Her work integrates food, environmental, technological, and gender history. Ketchum's most recently-published book, Ingredients for Revolution: A History of American Feminist Restaurants, Cafes, and Coffeehouses (2022), is the first history of the more than 230 feminist and lesbian-feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses that existed in the United States from 1972 to the present. 

We discuss Alex's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a guest list of fellow academics and writers; Mindy Seu, Mimi Onuoha and Claire L. Evans. Set in Alex's garden in Montreal against a soundtrack of Mary J. Watkins, Tegan and Sara and NoSo, they start with salad dressed with a 1970s recipe for 'green dyke dressing', followed by Bloodroot's oatmeal sunflower seed bread and Moosewood's curried squash soup, finishing with Sister Pie's apple sage gouda pie, Lagusta's Luscious strawberry balsamic chocolates and coffee. We discuss Alex's career in academia and her focus on how academia and scholarship can be made more accessible for historically marginalised people.

Currently, she is the Lifestyle Editor at Courier Media and writes the hit weekly food newsletter Dishes To Delight. She hosts podcasts, events and supper clubs and works across a number of projects from live events at Soho House to collaborating with brands on content. Her debut cookbook Table For Two was published by DK Books at Penguin Random House in January 2023.

We discuss Bre's dream feminist dinner party, starting with an iconic guest list; singer Kylie Minogue, food writer and presenter Nigella Lawson, and novelist and screenwriter Emma Forrest. Her first novel, Queen's Gambit, about Katherine Parr, Henry VIII’s last queen, has been adapted for the screen as Firebrand, starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, which premiered at Cannes in May. All her work seeks to revisit the lives of remarkable women who have been forgotten or misrepresented by history.

Since then, she’s been running a sandwich series on social media and travelling.
