The head of the National Anti Corruption Commission has resigned, three years into his five year term.

Paul Brereton has been under pressure to resign step down for some time now and was accused of not properly managing conflicts of interest related to both defence referrals and the Robodebt investigation

But he's denied any suggestion of impropriety and says he's resigned so he doesn't become a distraction to the commission's core purpose.

Power prices could fall by up to 10 per cent for some households and businesses from July 1.

It's part of a shake-up of something called the Default Market Offer which puts a price cap on what energy retailers can charge.

Oil prices have plunged more than five per cent to around 98-US dollars a barrel, as hopes rise for a deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran.

A Victorian court has heard Dezi Freeman taunted police, inviting them to "have a beer with him", in the moments before his death.

Details of the stand-off have been revealed in a directions hearing today, ahead of a full inquest into Freeman's death.

During the stand-off, Freeman called officers "thugs", "bullies" and "cowards", and described the shooting deaths of two police officers at Porepunkah as "self defence", before he was killed in a shoot-out with police.
