WA authorities are investigating the alleged throwing of a bomb into an Invasion Day rally as a potential act of terrorism.

Police allege a 31-year-old man threw a homemade bomb into a crowd of about 2,500 people on Monday.

They say it was designed to explode on impact, but did not go off.

Authorities initially said the "terror" label was not needed but now say they are investigating the incident as a potential terrorist act.

It comes after calls from First Nations communities to treat the alleged attack more seriously.

Nationals M-P Colin Boyce says he's been canvassing support from colleagues after announcing he'll challenge David Littleproud for party leadership on Monday.

The spotlight's been on Nationals and Liberal leadership positions after the Coalition dramatically split last week.

Mr Boyce says his move for the Nationals top job is motivated by a desire to reunite the two parties.

He says he's spoken to colleagues but would not say if they'd back him.

And U-S President Donald Trump has urged Iran to make a deal on nuclear weapons, or face another American attack.

Mr Trump says he wants a deal that would see Iran commit to producing no nuclear arms and has taken to social media to announce a "massive" naval fleet is heading for Iran.

Iran says it will "respond like never before if pushed."

The rising tensions come amid Iran's brutal crackdown on anti government protesters, which has killed thousands of people. 

Authorities have confirmed they're investigating the alleged throwing of a bomb into an Invasion Day rally crowd in Perth as a "potential terrorist act".

A 31-year-old's been charged after police allege he threw a homemade bomb into a crowd of more than 2,000 people at the protest.

The bomb did not explode, but it sparked questions from First Nations leaders and some politicians around why the incident was not being labelled as terrorism.

Now, police say they're investigating whether the alleged attack was terrorism.

U-S President Donald Trump has warned Iran "time is running out" to negotiate a deal on its nuclear programme, warning his navy is poised to attack.

On social media, Mr Trump said a "massive" fleet is "moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm and purpose" towards Iran.

In response, Iran's mission to the UN says the country will "respond like never before" if pushed.

It comes after Iran's brutal crackdown on anti-government protests which have killed thousands of people.
