Telstra says it has fully resolved all issues linked to today's nationwide outage and says it's identified and isolated a software defect which caused the outage.

Communications Minister Anika Wells says Telstra is checking on a number of people who attempted to call triple-zero during a network outage this morning, and were unable to get through.

The Minister says systems that ensure customers can still access triple-zero during an outage largely worked.

But Telstra has told her that around three dozen welfare checks are being carried out.

90 per cent of affected services have now been restored.

The US military says it's hit more than 80 targets in strikes against Iran, a day after multiple tankers were attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
