Last year, "Pearl" by Yasmina Hamlawi won the URTI International Grand Prix 2021. Last Friday at the Prix Europa ceremony in Potsdam, "Pearl" was awarded first prize in the category Best Radio Documentary 2022. Prix Europa are prestigious awards for European television, radio and internet programmes. "Evénements" by Pascale Brischoux, also accompanied by the Atelier de création sonore radiophonique (acsr), received an honourable mention in the Best Radio Fiction category.

Leon is single. He is close to Teresa, his 15-year-old daughter. When Leon brings up the subject of the flat earth, an argument is never far away. After an argument, Leon decides to go to Antarctica to prove to the world and to his daughter that the Earth is flat.

To prove to his daughter that he can still do great things, like Jacques Brel, whom he often listens to talk about his Atlantic crossing in a sailing boat.

The intention is to explore Léon's existential crisis in order to bring out its gentle madness and poetry. Basically, Léon is a man who wants to escape from his everyday life to prove to himself and his daughter that he is capable of achieving great things. The path is the goal.

In the night, two mares surprise us. What is the legend of these wild horses that populate Galicia?

This journey can be listened to in different orders. This order was chosen at random by the director Anne Lepère*.

It is a twist of time where voices from the 16th century, telepathic visions of the future and rituals between humans and horses ricochet. These include the practice of farriery or the annual Rapa das bestas gathering where humans meet wild horses.

To be a woman, to be complete,

The life and the body of Fos were ruled by her community, her father, her husband.

Fos never wanted to be this woman. Exiled in Belgium, she realises the word ‘woman’ deserves a different definition than what she has known, that a woman has the right to bodily integrity and to pleasure.

She decides to get her life back and reclaim her wounded body. To do so she chooses to undergo a surgical reconstruction of her clitoris. Her story unfolds like a sound tale, Fos reveals herself, she takes us back to her distant past, to her forced marriage and to the day from which stemmed the rest of her life: the day her pearl was taken from her.

In 2018, I had the opportunity to stay in the Marrakech Safi region, at the invitation of Les Halles de Schaerbeek. I was to conduct a creative residency there on the notion of 'sacred'.

But, as is often the case, and fortunately, I drifted. And from this journey, several conversations arose with different 'practitioners' of the voice and the word: with the poet and Sufi specialist Touria Ikbal, a young singer and a student muezzin, the storyteller and teacher Aziz Bouyabrine and, more particularly, in a rich and constant dialogue with the artist and translator Noureddine Ezarraf.

These encounters led me from the peaks of the High Atlas to the cavity of a mouth, along a vocal groove that leads from song to language. And in the relief of this furrow, the memory of words, the traces of colonial violence, a sung remedy, the history of letters and of the cosmos have appeared.

The conception of this piece made me question myself a lot. In particular about the use of French, or about my accuracy and legitimacy to hold a microphone in a cultural context of which I was very ignorant. However, it is this confusion, this discomfort and these derivations that make it precious to my ears.

"I speak all languages, but in Arabic" was produced as part of a residency in Marrakech in 2018 at the invitation of Halles de Schaerbeek.

The Stolen Brain is the story of Louise, a historian, freshly graduated with a doctorate, who is awakened at night by two men who steal her brain. It is also the story of the stolen brain of a nurse who died in Brussels in 1924 from a mysterious illness. Above all, The Stolen Brain is the story of a historian who discusses and lives with her archives at the expense of her career and social life.

Underwater, No One Sees The Fish Crying begins with a family quest. With her friend Jeanne, Delphine sets out to reconstitute the life of her grandfather, Félix, a Belgian missionary who left for the Congo in 1934. Their quest leads them from Belgium to the Congo, at the intersection of several generations.

In the third episode, Delphine and Jeanne meet Felix's Belgian family. They travel to Gaume and the Ardennes, where they find official archives of the Marcel-Bwanakucha family. They gain access to Astrida's medical file and visit the psychiatric hospital where she died after twenty years of internment. As they make their discoveries, a tumultuous and tragic life story emerges, rooted in a post-colonial society.

By word of mouth, my collection of stories stirs up memories, stirs up the past, has fun with sounds, and here is where escape takes on an air of praise that we didn't know it had. A political philosophy of life emerges. A certain art of escape.

Mazina, Marnélice, Rahman and Ghasem, four teenagers, wait behind the walls of a former military barracks, their Petit Château.

In Belgium, unaccompanied foreign minors who declare themselves to the authorities are received unconditionally on the territory until they come of age.

To be, to come, to go tells the story of these young people at the turning point when they leave legal childhood and lose the protections associated with it. It offers the listener a sensitive reflection on the notions of truth, wandering and arbitrariness.
