Action RC

Double World Champ Jared Tebo is back on the show as we continue our extended conversation. This time around we're talking about those two IFMAR World Championship wins in 1/10 offroad, the UK Neo race he came to dominate, and some of the parts of Jared's life that make him who he is. You'll hear an astonishing story about the level of preparation involved for Jared in getting ready for a Worlds campaign, and I also do my best to convince him to saddle up one more time for the 2023 1/10 Off-road Worlds. We wrap up part 2 of this chat with the "what next" question: what does the remainder of 2023 hold, after Jared's retirement announcement? Don't forget to check back on the previous episode the catch the rest of Jared's story. Thanks for listening, I hope you enjoy the show.

He's won a couple of IFMAR World Championships, and been at the very top of the R/C game for the last 20+ years, but he's hanging up the transmitter. Join me in this first part of a two-part extended conversation as we explore Jared Tebo's retirement and what it all means. We'll also tour through his 8th buggy career, exploring world championship races and the level of preparation that goes into them, what he learned from gas truck racing, and a host more. We get deeply personal at times in what is a fascinating insight. We'll be back next week with Part 2 where we dive into tenth buggy racing, the NEO, teammates, family, and the future. Thanks to Jared for being so generous with his time. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

There aren't too many R/C racers who've stood on a Worlds podium with a car powered by their own motors and batteries. Rick Hohwart is one such racer. We dive deeply into Rick's career including the Peak Performance story, nerd out on building brushed motors, explore the rise of touring car racing in the US, and dig into a little conspiracy theory around a 1987 World Championship result. We also took at look at the chances of AE returning to the on-road category and do a little crystal-ball gazing on future battery tech. Strap in, it's a long one. Enjoy!

He's won World Championships in 3 different disciplines, and went within a whisker of a fourth. One of the all-time greats in a chat filled with great insights. Want to know what happened to Brian Kinwald's World Championship winning RC10 from 1993?  This episode has the answer! Mark Pavidis joins me to explore WC wins against Masami on home turf, a  12-year journey to an 8th offroad win in Indonesia, the first world champs for nitro tourer, and an oh-so-close effort in ISTC at Yatabe Arena. All that, and a heap more. Enjoy the show!

Something different this week as we put our analyst hat on. First we'll take a quick trip through some big races of the last week: DNC, TITC and the South Australian Off-road Champs, followed by a brief reflection on the second series of the Action RC podcast so far. Enjoy!

Did he really break-dance in Mike Reedy's hotel room? Did this conversation with 10-time Australian Champion and renowned larrikin Josh Pain go deeply philosophical? These questions and more are answered as dive deep with Josh - national champ in EP offroad, gas truck, touring car and a guy who has raced (and made friends) all around the world. Enjoy the chat!

We're back with two-time World Champ Joel Johnson to continue our conversation (check out episode 9 for the first part). We explore a career-defining partnership with Team Trinity, racing with Gil Losi Jr, crazy oval speeds at Lake Whippoorwhill, where the lion-heart of a competitor comes from and more. We wrap with a quick dip into AKA, some insights into the race scene in 2023, and just maybe the chance we'll see Joel Johnson on track at one more World Championship event. I hope  you enjoy this conversation.

Emerging Aussie race caller Mitchell Pratt joins me as we run our eyes over the 2023 Australian season for 10th and 8th Offroad. Who's fast, who's changed teams, where are the big races, what's going on overseas? These and more are the questions that occupy our minds today...including a little left-field Worlds prediction that seems to have escaped many people's attention - have we picked a smokey for Hobby Action later this year? Enjoy the show.

What does it take to win an IFMAR World Championship? Join us as we chat to a man who knows better than most - two time World Champ Joel "Magic" Johnson. Joel grew up racing 1/12th on-road, came oh-so-close to winning the big one in that category before switching across to off-road in 1987 and nailing it at the first attempt. He'd get it done again, this time on tarmac a few years later in 1992. In this first episode with Joel we work our way from the 70's through to the 90's, taking in local, national and international racing, meeting some of the legends of the sport and classic cars along the way. We'll return soon for part 2 as we dig into some more of Joel's R/C story. Enjoy!
