Adapt and Respond with RJ Young: A College Football Podcast

RJ discusses topics across college football and recruiting with Dave Campbell's Texas Football insider Shehan Jeyarajah.

RJ and Spencer Mayberry broke down which of these three programs will be the next to win a College Football Playoff national title: Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs, Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma Sooners or Tom Herman's Texas Longhorns.

Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma faces Jeremy Pruitt's Tennessee in September. Tom Herman's Texas faces Ed Orgeron's LSU Tigers. Ron and Laurel talked about ghosts too.

I spoke with NFL veteran and All-American Jerry Ostroski about the issues NFL, NFL Players Association and collective bargaining agreement means folks like Patrick Mahomes, Sam Acho, Dak Prescott and incoming rookies like CeeDee Lamb and Joe Burrow are affected by it.

RJ chops it up with former Oklahoma Sooners left tackle RJ Proctor about his career at OU and what he hopes to accomplish at OU Pro Day. He also talks with 247 Sports national college basketball writer Kevin Flaherty about Kansas men's basketball, Oklahoma men's basketball, Baylor men's basketball and Tulsa men's basketball.

Plus, RJ has a word on Charlie Weis, Tom Brady's pending NFL free agency and what sports talk shows and podcasts should be.

RJ and Ron chopped it up about how Jalen Hurts should or should not succeed Tom Brady with the New England Patriots; R.J. Proctor, Lee Morris and Parnell Motley need outstanding Pro Days; Spike Lee and the New York Knicks drama; Dak Prescott is gonna make sure Amari Cooper is the odd man out, and Kevin Durant needs to brush his damn hair.

In this show with, RJ takes on eight segments ranging from Texas Christian head football coach Gary Patterson and his stance on the NCAA's proposal for one-time transfers without sitting out a year; to going inside Scott Cochran's decision to leave Alabama and join Georgia; to Isaiah Simmons and Devin Duvernay's draft stock; to Andy Staples idea for conference realignment and The Big 12 to become The Big 16 to an interview with Gonzaga College offensive coordinator and five-star quarterback Caleb Williams' QB coach Danny Schaechter.

The attendance at Lloyd Noble is exactly what it should be. Three Sooners are mocked for first round selection in the NFL Draft by CBS Sports, and Latrell McCutchin speaks. Caleb Williams wants to be better than everybody.

RJ discusses the NFL Scouting Combine 2020 with special attention paid to former Oklahoma Sooners Jalen Hurts, Neville Gallimore, CeeDee Lamb and Kenneth Murray. He acknowledges former Clemson Tigers linebacker Isaiah Simmons is a Destroyer of Worlds and noted Oklahoma State graduate Garth Brooks can't wear a Detroit Lions Barry Sanders jersey without people thinking about Super Tuesday and Bernie Sanders' 2020 Presidential campaign. He also touches on 2021 defensive end and five-star Ohio State Buckeyes commit Jack Sawyer.

Here's the rundown:

—Open: The Ohio State Buckeyes return Heisman Trophy Finalist Justin Fields, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and safety Shaun Wade. Ryan Day also added Kerry Coombs as defensive coordinator and Julian Fleming at wide receiver. The Buckeye football program has a chance to be legendary in 2020.

—11:32: The NFL Combine is rich with talent and value at each position, but I think we view it wrongly.

—18:30: Kirby Smart stole Alabama Crimson Tide strength coach Scott Cochran from Nick Saban. Cochran accepted the special teams coordinator position in Athens. It's the latest bit of piracy performed by Smart since leaving Saban's staff as defensive coordinator.

—26:22: Tom Herman and Texas entered a pivotal 2020 where everything is on the line. Coordinators Mike Yurcich and Chris Ash have to come through for Herman as well as Bijan Robinson, Sam Ehlinger and Joe Assai. Or it's curtains.

—35:16: New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick traveled to Middle Tennessee State to scout defensive end Tyshun Render. Belichick is renown for searching the woods for outstanding college football players who he thinks can help his team win. I believe Mason Fine is one such kid.

—42:24: Mason Fine threw for over 12,500 yards in four years at North Texas. He led the program to their first back-to-back 9-win seasons since 1977-78. As a sophomore, he passed for more than 4,000 yards with 31 touchdowns. His only FBS offer came from Seth Littrell's Mean Green after passing for more than 5,000 yards and 73 touchdowns as a high school junior at Locust Grove. He's from Peggs, Oklahoma, which is a town of just 813 folks. He was a delight to interview.
