In this episode Thad shares his story of overcoming addiction and finding recovery. He talks about his journey from being a functional addict to hitting rock bottom and realizing he needed to make a change. Thad discusses the gradual decline of his addiction and the impact it had on his relationships and overall well-being. He also highlights the role of pain and avoidance in addiction and the importance of putting oneself first in the recovery process. Thad's pivotal moments include his grandfather giving him an ultimatum and meeting a sober friend who had a light in his eyes. He shares his experience with 12-step recovery and the process of surrendering to a higher power. Thad shares his journey of recovery and personal growth, highlighting the importance of internal change and self-reflection. He initially believed that changing his external circumstances would lead to a better life, but he soon realized that he needed to change himself from within. Thad experienced a period of detachment from recovery and accumulated personal wreckage, leading to thoughts of suicide. However, he eventually recognized the need to look inward and take responsibility for his actions. Through therapy, self-help books, and various programs, Thad began the process of internal cleansing and personal growth.
