Welcome to Episode 33 of What Chiropractic Doesn't Cure: Stories of Innate podcast. This is a special one, because, if you don't know, the human spine has 33 vertebrae. It's also a special number in chiropractic because Stephenson's textbook talks about 33 principles of chiropractic.
For this special 33rd episode. I wanted to have someone who really embodies the science, the art, and the philosophy of chiropractic: Dr. Ryan Dopps.
For a little background before this episode, Dr. Ryan’s wife, Dr. Denise Dopps, died in Sept 2024 following an incredibly inspiring, heartbreaking 5-year battle with Stage IV colon cancer. She was one of my dearest friends and I was honored to have her record Episode 1 of this podcast.
Dr. Ryan shared an amazing talk about Dr. Denise’s life and legacy at Dynamic Essentials barely a month later, giving everyone an incredible charge. (You may be able to get a recording of it at www.lifede.com from the October 2024 meeting.)
I’m so grateful that everything came together for Dr. Ryan to share this conversation. We dig deep into recognizing symptoms as a disruption of life force. We also discuss why chiropractors are talking about topics of the mind and soul, not just focusing on the body.
He quoted the Developer of Chiropractic, B.J. Palmer, “We chiropractors work with the subtle substance of the soul. We release the imprisoned impulse, the tiny rivulet of force, that emanates from the mind and flows over the nerves to the cells, and stirs them into life.”
With everything Dr. Ryan has gone through, I asked if his trust in the body’s innate intelligence has been shaken and where that has taken him, as a person and doctor.
Dr. Ryan gives this great challenge: “Use your experiences, use your life, use your encounters that you've had with people, and the struggles that you've gone through not as a negative, to be a victim in your story, but use it as a catalyst, as a driving force to make the world better right to make humanity a better place because you're in it.”
Have you thought, “I’m always going to be like this”? Are you living into a label?
In reality, there is so much science and research that shows that changing your lifestyle, your habits, and your thoughts, actually rewires and creates neuroplasticity in the brain.
When we create new neural pathways, that shows up in your physiology because your nervous system controls every single cell, organ, tissue, and gland in your body.
Today’s story on What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate is a powerful and personal one of a young man who came to a crossroads in his life and listened to the whisper of a nudge to go to a business fair, where he met a chiropractor!
Enjoy the thoughtful depth of this conversation with Dr. Mel Krug. Here’s more about her…
After spending years in and out of doctor’s offices, Dr. Mel started to feel like just a number in her health journey. Pills, restrictive diets, and numbing emotions just weren’t cutting it anymore. Upon discovering the powerful healing benefits of Network Spinal Chiropractic Care in 2014, Dr. Mel has radically overcome her own personal health challenges, moving from menstrual cycle dysfunction and emotional trauma to more power and strength in both her body and mind.
Dr. Mel then founded Inspire Life Chiropractic Center in 2017 in which she now helps thousands of women and families every year overcome chronic health challenges including anxiety, indigestion, trauma, sleep, mental health, nervous system regulation, and so much more.
Additionally, Dr. Mel works with clients in the realm of private, 1 on 1 business mentorship and entrepreneurial start-ups as well as mindset, embodiment, and breakthrough coaching within her company, the Inspire Co. She is dedicated to helping women (and men of course) reclaim their power, navigate stress naturally with more ease, and ultimately live a life filled with empowerment and inspiration from within.

(Trigger warning: this episode discusses someone dealing with serious mental health issues. If you or someone you know is struggling with life’s challenges, call or text 988 to speak to someone at the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.)
One of the most powerful questions you can ask: What would your life look like if you didn’t do XYZ.
Today’s story is about a chiropractor who asked her patient this and was shocked by the response. This story changed the trajectory of Dr. Nona Djavid’s practice and life.
We also get into how to quantum leap if you aren’t seeing results like this in your health, your practice or your life.
Before we dig in, this episode is sponsored by my membership Adjust Your Marketing Blueprint, which is a powerful tool for chiropractic teams to share their stories and reach people with digital marketing. Its all the strategy and support, tools and templates your CA needs to be successful running your social media (even with no marketing background or understanding of chiropractic.)
So let’s go! Today’s guest is a Chiropractor, Quantum Leap teacher, the founder of eLIVate Club and Part Time Million Dollar Practice chiropractic mastermind, speaker, a mom and just a beautiful human: Dr. Nona Djavid!
We also address if these stories/podcast bring up feelings of not-enoughness in folks. Have you thought, “I’m not getting those kinds of results!”
Dr. Nona shares about where to start in our mindset and energetics. We also apply this to social media - if we start off by saying “I hate social media” then people will feel that energy in our posts.
We talk about how do we determine if we need to work harder, if we need to pivot, or if we need to give it more time? (and the answer will surprise you!)

Today, you're going to hear the story of a 6-year-old who is transforming in front of his parents’ eyes after a traumatic birth he suffered with colic and just constant crying. And now, as a 6 year old, was dealing with terrible daily tantrums.
His chiropractor, Dr. Chantal Shelstad, evaluated him with CLA INSiGHT scans for thermography, EMG and heart rate variability. This was so validating for his parents (and many others) as they could see the evidence in the nervous system of the issues they were experiencing.
We discuss how this child’s nervous system was stuck with a “foot on the gas pedal.” This sympathetic dominant response was even affecting his digestive system.
Dr. Chantal also shares about her journey as a mother, a doula, and now a chiropractor! She beautifully explained her goal as a chiropractor to help children and adults to become more flexible and adaptable to life’s challenges, building resilience and opening curiosity.
Stay for the end of the conversation where she shares her top advice for chiropractic students, including visiting and shadowing as many chiropractic offices as possible.
This episode is sponsored by my membership, Adjust Your Marketing Blueprint. It is where chiropractors and their teams can get strategy and support tools, templates and tutorials to do their digital marketing in-house, saving time and saving money and honestly, saving a lot of frustration.

Today’s guest on What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure Stories: of Innate podcast is Dr. Tom Waller, a chiropractor who ignites health-conscious leaders, coaching leaders in health care and health-conscious businesses.
He shares the story of Malcolm, who had heart failure and lung failure. Why would his wife want him to get adjusted and refer him to the chiropractor? This story is all about neuroplasticity. Dr. Tom shares what that means and how chiropractic is actually affecting change in the brain.
We also talk about getting ego out of the way, his favorite ways to educate patients (especially when there are restrictions on what he can say in marketing in the UK) and what he wishes more chiropractors knew about becoming a congruent person with non-negotiables.

I was chatting with Dr. Julia North at a conference (Dr. Tim Young’s Focus OKC!) when she mentioned this amazing story about a young woman with trisomy 21. I knew I HAD to have her tell you on the podcast. Dr. Julia practices at Schoenherr Chiropractic in St. Peters, Missouri. Not long after Dr. Julia graduated from chiropractic college, she got a new patient who didn’t have a specific symptom that needed treatment. A mother brought Em, her non-verbal daughter with Down Syndrome in for care to just improve her quality of life. They’d had difficulty in the past knowing if she was even in pain for not? Dr. Julia did a thorough evaluation and x-rays and determined she didn’t have contraindications. She began adjusting Em regularly. As time went by, Em gained stability while walking, began to say simple words, make more eye contact and was able to climb on the table to be adjusted by herself. She even was able to enjoy a new level of independence on a family vacation! This story is so important because it highlights that chiropractic increases an individual’s own potential and expression of LIFE. It also illustrates that everyone deserves access to care and quality of life! It’s also cool, because there could be no placebo effect of Em believing this would help her not - a clear nervous system just allowed her to function at a higher level. Dr. Julia shares more about how this experience changed her perspective of what chiropractic does and it goes beyond just realigning a bone; it’s about how an adjustment retrains your neurology. We also discuss how she shifts the conversation with patients from pain relief to quality of life. Whether you’re 8 months old, 8 years or 80 years-old, you deserve to have a full life doing the things you love to do! In this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, we talk about quality of life being restored under chiropractic care. This doesn’t mean that every symptom disappears, but that an individual is able to reach their individual goals. My guest is Dr. George Auger, who practices at Auger Family Chiropractic, in Greensville, SC. He is also an Assistant Professor at Sherman College, teaching courses in Spinal Biodynamics and the Pierce Results System of Spinal Analysis. This is a great fit as he is able to bring a perspective from his degrees in engineering and electrical engineering. He tells his story of growing up with an uncle as his chiropractor. We also discuss his new venture to share the chiropractic story! In 2024, Dr. Auger launched a new company, Chiropractic Digital Brochures - they help chiropractors to better educate patients and generate more new patients from referrals. We wrap it up with a powerful moment of Dr. Auger sharing what he wishes every chiropractic student knew about chiropractic. Imagine how terrifying it would be to have a toddler experiencing hundreds of seizures an hour. One family knew how helpful chiropractic had been to their daughter, so they asked the hospital if their chiropractor could come adjust her in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The hospital granted him privileges…and then her medical team was amazed at what they saw on their monitors!
On this episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, I talk with Dr. Chris Walker, from Walker Chiropractic in Augusta GA. He shares this amazing story, making the point that chiropractors are uniquely able to support the nervous system and the body, and how they can work with healthcare providers.
However, Dr. Walker and I both know that not all stories are fairy tales with happy endings. We talk about how chiropractors can move forward and reconcile that with what they know about chiropractic principles, especially as R.W. Stephenson describes in #24 of his 33 principles: “The Limits of Adaptation – Innate Intelligence adapts forces and matter for the body as long as it can do so without breaking a universal law, or Innate Intelligence is limited by the limitations of matter.”
Dr. Walker also talks about his own chiropractic journey, from where he started out as a CNA and nurse, entering school to become a physical therapist, and then becoming a chiropractor instead!
To wrap it up, I ask Dr. Walker “What do you wish more people understood about chiropractic?” Don’t miss his reply!

When you’re looking for a miracle for a loved one where do you turn? In today’s episode of What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, a grandmother returned to Dr. Pete Gay, at Family Chiropractic of Kennebunk, Maine.
Dr. Pete tells how a young boy was suffering from mysterious digestive issues every time he ate or drank. They were driving home from getting testing at the hospital when his grandmother felt called to see the chiropractor who had previously helped her grandson sleep through the night in kindergarten.
We discuss how to create an environment where patients always feel welcome, where they know they’ll hear the simple truth that their body function better when their nervous system is clear and connected.
Dr. Pete has a great story about being in pharmaceutical school when he was himself referred to a chiropractor for help with his chronic sinus and allergy problems. From there, his chiropractic journey brought him to Dynamic Essentials or DE, where he learned and grew in the philosophy and principle of chiropractic.

Many have heard the famous story of a deaf man, Harvey Lillard, being given the first chiropractic adjustment by Dr. D.D. Palmer. (If you have check the links farther down.) However, does that mean chiropractic can CURE deafness?
Today’s guest on What Chiropractic Doesn’t Cure: Stories of Innate, Dr. Marilyn Shore, is a family chiropractor at Del Ray Beach Florida and regular speaker at Dynamic Essentials.
Dr. Marilyn tells the story of a 5-year-old boy who was deaf. His parents had taken him to specialist after specialist to try to discover why he couldn’t hear.
Dr. Marilyn also shares the story of how she started out as a nurse, working in NYC hospitals - when she suddenly heard the call to become a chiropractor! With her knowledge and background in medicine, it’s interesting that Dr. Marilyn prefers a simple, straightforward approach to educating patients.
We also discuss this principle of giving, loving, serving and doing out of our own abundance without expectation of return. It turns out her puppy, Honey, may be better at it than all of us! I ask the questions we all want to know, “What about the days that we’re stuck in a spiral and we don’t feel abundant?”
