Ernie Els is 'n professionele gholfspeler van Suid-Afrika met agt-en-sestig oorwinnings agter sy naam.

Ernie Els is a professional golfer from South Africa with sixty-eight wins to his name.

His sobriquet is "The Big Easy" because of his extremely tall stature at six feet, three inches and his smooth golf swing.

Els is one of just six golfers to rack up two wins at the U.S.Open and The Open Championship.

In addition to those four wins, he once had the echelon of World Number One, and he was at the top of the 2003 and 2004 European Tour Order of Merit.

He also holds the world record for wins at the World Match Play Championship with seven.

Els commenced playing golf at the age of eight, and by the time he was fourteen, he had become a consummate player with a scratch handicap.

Then in 1984 he grabbed the attention of golf fans and gained prestige by winning the Junior World Golf Championship for the Boys ages thirteen to fourteen bracket, coming out just ahead of Phil Mickelson, who finished in second place in the same category.

Then he won the South African Amateur Championship when he was seventeen to become the event's youngest winner ever.

He went professional in 1989, the same year he won the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

The first professional tournament he won was the Southern Africa Tour, which he won in 1991.

Today the tour is known as the Sunshine Tour.

Most of Els' contemporaries prefer to limit the championships they play in according to geography, but Els has shown a penchant for playing in events in all parts of the world.

He regularly plays in events that have been sanctioned by the European Tour in Australasia, South Africa, and Asia.
