Lectionary Text: Matthew 3:1-12

John the Baptizer is screaming, “Prepare the way,” echoing the prophet Isaiah when he notices the Pharisees and Sadducees are standing in line. The “kin-dom” of God is near and he wants to know what they are doing here. John informs them that he is getting folks washed up, but Jesus is coming to clean house. In this episode, listeners hear John the Baptizer’s hissy fit aimed at the snake pit, a “brood of vipers” and learn the difference between water and fire baptism.
