Healthcare is a highly regulated industry at both the professional and payer levels. The WOCN Society is committed to advancing legislative activity that promotes the benefits of wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nurse involvement related to pressure injuries, acute and chronic wounds, ostomy and continence care. The Society is actively engaged in state and federal public policy and advocacy efforts to help healthcare become economically viable, and to promote the value of WOC nurses across all healthcare settings.

In this episode, we talk with Kate Lawrence, MSN, RN, CWOCN, the Society’s Public Policy and Advocacy Coordinator, and Chris Rorick, MPH, the Society’s Director of Government Relations, who serve on the Society’s National Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. Kate and Chris discuss the important role that public policy plays within the Society, and resources that members can use as guides to advocate for themselves, for their profession and for their patients. They also discuss the diligent process of how the Committee works to identify important issues, create action plans and aim to get bills passed.
