  • Affiliate Buzz #291 – CJ.com: What Is Up with @LiveSuperFoods?
    In this episode of the Affiliate Buzz, host James Martell and Tikikiki.com publisher Kimberly Juchnowski discuss concerns about Commission Junction and their merchants, such as LiveSuperFoods.com.
    Kimberly is also James Martell’s project coordinator, as well as an avid world traveler and tries to take off for a few months each year. Her adventures not only satisfy her urge to explore new places, but also allow her new insight for her website which is dedicated to introducing people to new destinations and providing information about them.
    The Importance of Communication in Affiliate Marketing
    LiveSuperFoods.com is, by all appearances, a traditional merchant with more than 1,000 products in its online store. However when Kimberly had difficulty communicating with them towards the end of 2012, some of the problems included:

    * Messages to the affiliate went unanswered, even when posted to social media sites like Twitter
    * An email with detailed questions received a curt reply after a long wait time
    * The answers given in the emailed reply did not fully answer the questions in the original email
    * Emails are signed with “LiveSuperFoods” which fails to offer any type of personal business relationship

    The problems have been so harrowing that Kimberly has even suggested to James that they find a new merchant!
    Finding the Causes behind the Communication Problems
    One point Kimberly makes is that if a company as large as LiveSuperFoods.com is having this much trouble communicating with their affiliate marketers, then why do they have an affiliate marketing program in the first place? Poor communication can lead to the following:

    * The affiliate may feel like the company they are promoting does not care.
    * The affiliate may feel like the company would rather sell the stuff on their own.
    * The affiliate may feel like the company will not work with them when they have questions or need something.

    James and Kimberly also discuss website content, potential solutions, and how things turned around with LiveSuperFoods.com once they finally began communicating with Kimberly.
    Tune in now to listen to the entire conversation, and learn some tips to help solve your own affiliate marketing problems.

  • Affiliate Buzz #288 – Impact of Mobile in Affiliate Marketing
    In today’s episode James Martell, host of the Affiliate Buzz, speaks with Matt Frary, founder of SmarterChaos, a game-changing agency. James and Matt will be discussing the explosion in mobile devices and what affiliates and merchants need to be aware of, as PC’s begin to succumb to them. Some of what you will hear discussed includes HTML5 upgrades and responsive/reactive designs and themes.
    James begins with a startling tidbit of information and that is, he read an article in the Guardian News and Media, written by Anthony Sullivan, from November of 2012, stating that tablets and smartphones contribute to about 35% of all Internet traffic.
    So, the question being addressed today is “Are affiliate and advertisers paying enough attention to mobile?”
    In Need of Attention
    The answer is a resounding “No.” Matt explains that while people are talking about it, the attention needs to focus more on strategy. So, while you might be aware that the trend is growing at an incredible rate, you might not be aware of what to do about it.
    James emphasizes the need to do something about it, with even more interesting statistics, which include the following:

    * 75% of emails are opened on a mobile device
    * 65% Facebook posts are created through mobile devices
    * 90% of tweets on Twitter are conducted with a mobile device

    You will hear what that means for anyone hoping to succeed in an online business.
    Various Types of Mobile Devices
    There are multiple mobile devices on the market to consider when making choices in what you want to use, as well as what you market to for your business. Matt shares a few them, such as iPhones, tablets, and android.
    However, you will hear that they are not all created equal, especially when it comes to searching on the Internet. A simple search can become quite frustrating if a website is not equipped to handle your particular device, with a non-mobile enabled page. So, listen in to hear how you should adapt your website to help others search you out, through things such as reactive websites built with HTML5 where the browser is recognized as a mobile browser.
    Matt also discusses app to app tracking, which is an idea that works with ads from merchants, as well as web to app tracking, which is tying in traffic from the PC and installation of a mobile app. James and Matt then go into great detail on how these features work and how they can benefit you greatly in your personal and business needs.
    So, sit back and listen to 30+ minutes of valuable information, and don’t miss out on this episode filled with great tips to keep you current in today’s ever-changing technical world!

  • Affiliate Buzz #287 – Advertisers: How to “Reactivate” Dormant Affiliates
    James Martell, host of the Affiliate Buzz, often shares his years of experience, online business background, and successful tips and information so that other people might also find success in affiliate marketing.
    In today’s episode James sits down for an information-packed show with special guest, Carolyn Kmet from All Inclusive Marketing and longtime industry veteran of the affiliate marketing industry. Carolyn has an extensive background in all aspects of affiliate marketing and brings to the table a wealth of information.
    When you tune in you will hear them discuss strategies on how to reactivate affiliates and get the attention of those who have become dormant. James and Carolyn discuss reasons why an affiliate might become dormant, such as being sidetracked by other work. In other words, they aren’t inactive necessarily because they have given up or don’t care. Carolyn then goes on to discuss what an activation program is, which is finding ways to grab their attention again to make it work.
    Various Incentives for Reaching Out
    You will hear how an activation program can have a variety of incentives, to entice an affiliate back in and gain their interest in working with you. Some of these incentives include the following:

    * Increased commission
    * Pay per post
    * Giveaways and samples

    Carolyn goes on to say that they are open to new ideas that will gain the interest of affiliates who have seemingly lost interest, or was sidetracked along the way. You will hear creative ideas on how to reach out to everyone.
    For example, with www.kiyonna.com, they let them know that whoever drove in the most sales would get a complete styling consultation. They took it a step further by entering everyone who delivered at least one sale into a drawing for a $100 gift card. She explains how this kept it fair for those just starting out, as well as those who delivered a high amount of sales.
    The Results are in and UP!
    Carolyn then goes on to share the success of just that one program. They saw an 80% activation rate from their list of dormant affiliates, which is phenomenal, right? Out of those who reactivated, 25% of those who drove in at least one sale had done so for the first time. So, you will learn how to drive in more…and NEW business with these great ideas for activation programs.
    They also compared the sales for this particular group to the sales one month, to the exact same group’s sales the month before. With the promotion, there was an increase of 150% in dollar amount, and over 1000% in traffic…quite impressive!
    Tune in now to learn what this can mean for your business!

  • Affiliate Buzz #286 – Social Media Graphics – Cheat Sheets
    James Martell, host of the Affiliate Buzz, and his wife Arlene have over a decade of experience and success in online businesses. They share their wealth of knowledge in various venues, including podcast episodes.
    In this particular episode, James and Arlene address social media graphics, which can really boost your page and create a very professional presence. They have a lot of experience in working with these graphics for their own sites, as well as for clients. So, tune in to hear how you can utilize the amazing world of Social Media to enhance your business with professional graphics.
    Utilizing the various social medias such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+ is great when hoping for significant growth for an online… or even offline business. However, graphics play a large role in any website page in keeping a reader’s attention. So, you will want to hear what James and Arlene have to say about them.
    James starts with one of the biggest challenges of creating graphics, and that is keeping up with the various sizes. They also share how they have worked with graphic designers who are top notch in the business and have done some really great work, such as for the site Biogirlhealth.com, and how the branding is carried through to the various Social Media pages.
    Cover Art Dimensions
    James and Arlene share the various dimensions that come into play for the social medias. This is important to know, especially when you hire the work out to a freelancer. And, you will hear how they often use contractors at sites such as Elance, for a very reasonable price.
    They share the dimensions of cover art, or the big header that you see on top of Facebook and other Social Media pages. Here are some specifics for a few of the Social Medias that you might want to work with:

    * Facebook (851px x 315px)
    * Twitter (1252px x 626px)
    * Google+ (2120px x 1192px)
    * LinkedIn (646px x 220px)
    * Spreaker (985px x 275px)

    Now, as a point of reference, when you are looking at these dimensions, they are measured as width by height. While there are other options, these are ideal for the cover art on each page. Actually, the Ultimate Complete Final Social Media Sizing Cheat Sheet can be found here.
    You can also find great samples of these graphics on the Social Media outlet Spreaker, which hosts podcasts for various business owners, including another of James for The School of Internet Marketing. James mentions that if you do a search on Spreaker.com for “OMT Wired Up” you will find exceptional graphics for one of their coaching students, Ivan Hoe. Another example would be Winnie Lee’s “Positive Vibes” on Spreaker.
    Tips and Advice when working with Graphics
    You will hear from James and Arlene how they learned a few valuable tips in their many ventures in ordering graphics for themselves, as well as many clients. Listen in to learn what should be included in graphics, such as a smiling face to introduce you, a name, bullet points of information about the business, and possibly a tagline.
    They use the example of Peter Stolting, of DiscoverySeatours.ca, of someone who has all the right information in his graphics.

    * Discovery Seatours on Spreaker Web Radio
    * Discovery Seatours on Facebook
    * Discovery Seatours on YouTube
