  • Downsizing? What do you do with all your old stuff?
When it comes to downsizing your home or life it used to be that TradeMe was a go to destination for selling your goods. Now there are lots of online marketplaces, but it can feel like the wild west on there. Which got us wondering, if you want to sell things where do you go? Are garage sales even a thing anymore? And what about recycling centres? Natalie Jane, the founder of Be Organised, which helps Kiwis downsize and organise their space chats to Jesse.

  • Olive oil from the pharmacy? The history of food in NZ
A new exhibition is about to open at Wellington Museum that traces our culinary history. Now some of you might well remember that olive oil used to be purchased at the pharmacy or when vegetables were boiled to an inch of their life. The food we eat has changed so much in such a short time, so we'd love to hear about any of your memories on 2101. Ian Wards is the Senior Curator of the exhibition called "Capital of Kai" and he chats to Jesse.

  • What is the state of the New Zealand music industry?
The Aotearoa Music Awards were held last night and among all the great performances, one stood out in particular. Dame Lynda Topp took the microphone after a tribute performance to the twins by Country Musician of the Year Tami Neilson with nominee Southland singer-songwriter Jenny Mitchell, and she lambasted the lack of spending on music and the arts. It's not the first time funding, or lack of funding, for music and arts has been called out, so we wanted to talk to someone who knows the music industry inside out about what's going on. Carmel Bennett is the General Manager for MusicHelps, and the recent recipient of the Taite Prize Independent Spirit Award. MusicHelps is a charity organisation that funds and supports projects like music therapy sessions and programmes that help people experiencing hardship.

  • Political Group Chat
We have started a new segment here on Afternoons, that we call Political Group Chat - a chance for interesting people to say what they're thinking out loud on topics that have been in the news in the last week. Tim Batt and Dane Giraud are our guests and today we're looking a range of issues from the Government's proposed public service job cuts, MP allowances, homeschooling rules and a social media ban for under 16s.

  • Your Money with Mary Holm
It's a day of talking numbers .. we wanted to get our personal finance whizz Mary Holm's take on KiwiSaver announcements in today's Budget, but there weren't any that we could see .. do with that what you will.
Fortunately Mary has spent some of her week at the Retirement Commission conference which has given her lots of things to discuss with Jesse.

  • Why is surrogacy so hard?
Auckland parents Emma and Travis Lehman welcomed baby Lila into their family a year ago, but their journey to parenthood was far from conventional. Unable to carry a child herself, Travis's sister offered to become their surrogate. She lives in the United States where it seems surrogacy is more commonplace. Here in New Zealand there are calls for reform of our surrogacy laws, with the Law Commission saying they are not fit for purpose. Emma shares her experience through her podcast 'Surro tales' which aims to support others navigating surrogacy.
