  • Stress and Depression Around Losing Weight
    In this short yet sweet show, Drew tackles the root of all-too-common problems: stress, depression, and weight gain. The root is in the mind; what happens inside the mind is reflected physically on the body. Therefore, when we begin to think negatively about ourselves, we create a magnet for more negative thoughts, and those negative thoughts create stress, which welcomes depression. Biologically, stress and depression create weight gain.

    In this episode, Drew helps you to take a deep breath, pay attention to your self-talk,  and be much easier on yourself. You will learn how to transform negative thoughts into self-healing ones, exercise to relieve stress, and the importance of a nutrition program.

    If you don’t pull the weeds from the roots, they will continue to grow. So tune in and get ready to make way for your flowers to bloom.

    Show Notes:

    * Negative self-talk causes depression
    * Depression and stress= Weight gain
    * Weight problems begin in the mind, out
    * Be much easier on yourself (with your self-talk)
    * Pay close attention to how to you talk to, and about, yourself
    * Turn your focus to a good nutrition program
    * Exercise is a huge stress-reliever
    * Stop weighing yourself! It is terrible

    * You can't weigh or measure happiness

    * When negative thoughts come in, your brain listens and attracts more negative thoughts.

    * Find and correct negative thinking

  • EMB #245: A Cure For Type 2 Diabetes?
    Dr. Jason Fung grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada..... I went to the University of Toronto at age 17 to begin studies in Biochemistry. By 23, I completed medical school at the U of T, and began my Internal Medicine residency there.

    Finishing my specialty of Internal Medicine, I chose Nephrology (kidney disease) as my sub-specialty. Each field of internal medicine draws its own personalities. Nephrologists had the reputation of being a ‘thinkers’ specialty. There are a lot of intricacies of fluid and electrolytes, and I enjoyed these puzzles. I studied Nephrology at the University of California, Los Angeles mostly at Cedars-Sinai Hospital and the VA Wadsworth. Looking back, I realize that it must have been a little disconcerting to patients in the hospital to be treated by a doctor who looked about 18 years old.

    I returned to Toronto in 2001 to start my career in Nephrology, where I still have both an office and hospital practice. Type 2 diabetes is by far and away the leading cause of kidney disease, and I treat many hundreds of patients with this disease. Many also have obesity. By the early 2010s my interest in nutrition, combined with my professional focus on obesity and T2D had led me directly to the diabesity puzzle.

    More details HERE.

    Show Notes:

    * what is type 2 diabetes
    * what is type 1 diabetes and where is it found
    * The Myth that type 2 diabetes is a chronic and progressive disease
    * this is a dietary disease
    * treat obesity first
    * what is kidney disease and how can it be treated or prevented
    * The Obesity Code
    * Weight loss is hormonally driven
    * Women's health initiative study
    * obesity is caused by too much insulin
    * try low carbs high fats diet
    * eliminate breads and pastas

  • EMB #244: Benefits of Removing Toxic Substances
    Rae McCutcheon owner of the Organic Oasis spa in Penhold Alberta talks about how removing toxins from her environment improve her sons Tourettes. She also mentions how her own headaches went away by changing the chemicals in the hair colouring she was using.

    On top of that she talks about the importance of creating a toxic free environment for not only her clients but employees as well.

    Rae: "I found out my oldest son was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome 4 years ago. We started going to a Naturopath and researching natural treatments for Tourette's.Through researching on natural alternatives and treatments, we found out about the importance of detoxing and avoiding the exposure to toxic chemicals.

    That is what started my journey with using on my family no chemical products and being that I did hair out of my home I realized the ammonia color and other harsh fragrances and chemicals could be affecting my son and rest of the family. So I started using only ammonia free colors, seeking lines that were the most health conscious alternatives that I could find. We have since then noticed an amazing turn around with our son, through all the dietary changes, detoxing and removing chemicals from our household".
