AGITATORS ANONYMOUS the Alan Averill Podcast

In 1926 an Irish woman, Violet Gibson, shot Mussolini from almost point blank range in the face, almost changing the face of history.....almost. An obscure character in Irish and world history, where did she come from, her beliefs, how did she get so close to 'El Duce' and why did she disappear from history until recently. Irish history obscura part who knows!!

Iron Maiden's new drummer conundrum leads us to more free speech issues this time to begin with. This week I discuss the case of Bob Vvylan at Glastonbury festival, getting the crowd to chant "Death to the IDF" (Israeli defence forces). Is this artistic license? certainly it was shown on the BBC, who the taxpayers pay for their license to do so, yet members of the public are going to jail for tweets, is this just? via Kneecap as usual....you'd swear it was a marketing scheme at this stage eh? and on to Velvet Sundown, an AI 70s style rock band who Spotify have been pushing who with no backstory have 500 000 monthly listeners and rising....what is fake and what isn't, let's get to the bottom of it all.....

Last Friday's podcast failed to upload due to a technical glitch so here is an updated version. Some random thoughts about this last week of craziness, the bombings in Iran, their nuclear aspirations, real or not? Israel and how both of them have been dancing around this confrontation for years.....note it was recorded before the 'ceasefire'....which most likely will be broken by the time it comes out.....

In the 1930's Ireland flirted with fascism, it's an often over looked one could say hidden moment in Irish history, who were the 'blue shirts' and why did fascism fail to take hold in Ireland. The podcast has looked at some elements of Irish history (and beyond) before instead of the usual music industry chatter, so let's get begin a series of curious stories that maybe don't get the attention they should....

Today's podcast is mainly industry and scene chat, are governments going to ignore human creatives when training AI models, how recent anger over US visa issues for touring European bands fits perfectly into political bias, do we all need to diversify our merch and only stock high end items? and if you have Gene Hoglan in your band get a good drum sound.......among other things.....

A sideways look at the protests currently happening in Serbia and other places around the world as Primordial played there and Croatia last weekend, what is Balkanisation? are the current state of protests and politics in many areas of the world what the West predicted? not quite in my opinion, all this, what was the crowd chanting between songs? some random Kneecap commentary and why I prefer dirty, sweaty venues with some dark history and sticky floors to the modern sanitized live experience.....

Today's podcast is a great interview with the gracious, insightful and erudite Vorphalack from Swiss legends SAMAEL! Before Dark throne or Emperor was playing Black Metal....we had 'Worship Him'......one of the very very first second wave of Black Metal albums! and still an absolute killer of an album! Hugely influential on me at the time, so was a great experience to chat with Vorph about where it all started, the old demo, 7" and tape trading days all the way up to the present day! and it starts.....backstage at a Saxon show in the lone star state of Texas!
