Lori La Bey talks with Carolyn and Ali Aslan, PhD, both had family members who struggled with Alzheimer's Disease and witnessed the emotional and financial strain it brought to their families.

Their mission with MemoryCo is to improve seniors’ lives through meaningful and engaging entertainment with an added focus on cognitive well-being and memory support.

Ali holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Dartmouth College and has completed his postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA working on a DARPA project developing an implantable memory prosthetic device that uses deep brain stimulation to improve memory. Carolyn's professional background is in finance and business where she has years of experience working with seniors in various settings.

Jeff McSpadden is co-founder and CEO at Composure, an evidence-based, digital audio company that delivers original soundscapes for senior living communities to improve sleep and drive healthy outcomes for

older adults living with dementia. As an entrepreneur, technologist, and lifelong musician, and composer, Jeff has dedicated himself to the pursuit of sound as a vital ingredient to human thriving. Prior to launching Composure, Jeff’s 15-year career as a composer included writing and producing original music for film, television, and advertising with clients such as MGM, NBC, CBS, PBS, HBO, and AMC as well as brands ranging from Mercedes-Benz, Verizon, Progressive, Toshiba, and Ford.

Jeff’s career in music began in his hometown of Dallas, TX as a teenager playing trumpet in a range of idioms from jazz to classical to pop and world music. He moved to New York City to attend The New School for Social Research where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in the Performing Arts. Jeff continues to live in NYC where he and his wife are raising their two teenage sons.

Dementia Chats™ positions our panelists to be the true experts.  They are those diagnosed with some form of dementia. 

Our panelists vary from program to program, depending on their schedules. New voices are always welcome to join us. Lori La Bey, the founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks facilitates Dementia Chats.  She learned how essential it was to listen to those diagnosed. Her mother lived for 30 years with dementia. Lori found that people living with dementia had great insights and creative ideas for care, and felt their voices needed to be lifted.  Those diagnosed show us how to be inclusive in new ways.

Our Panelists become spokespersons for themselves and others living with dementia positioning them as advocates, and many say it gives them a new sense of purpose and pride which allows them to continue to live a dignified and purpose-filled life. Learn

Eric Kolb is the Executive Director of Songs & Smiles. The nonprofit uses dementia-friendly singalongs and magazines to keep families connected during the Alzheimer's journey.

Ann Aubitz is the Co-owner and Publisher of Kirk House Publishers and FuzionPress. She is proud to present the Reminisce Line of reader-friendly books that is filling a huge gap for those living with dementia as well as our elders who are avid readers and are finding typical offerings either too difficult or too easy to read.
