The two spoke on the phone that evening, sharing the kind of small-talk conversation every couple has—until a strange sound broke through the line. Moments later, the call went dead. When Amanda’s husband returned home two days later, the house was silent… except for the frantic barking of their dog and the eerie evidence that something terrible had happened in the basement.

What followed was one of the most perplexing and heartbreaking investigations Calgary police had ever faced.
