The White House projects between 100,000 to 240,000 coronavirus deaths in the US even if social distancing guidelines are maintained. It was a change of tone from the president, who up until recently was hoping that businesses would be able to re-open in time for Easter, just over a week from now.

U.S. states are competing against each other to get vital ventilators for their own hospitals, and America's healthcare system means that those who lose their job will also lose their healthcare - a double blow for some of the country's poorest.
