Dan was the first director at the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator, where we record our show. The organization’s mission is to support up-and-coming businesses and foster economic growth. This young entrepreneur has a successful track record for identifying businesses that fill a void in the marketplace. In addition, Dan discusses the life of an entrepreneur, he shares several multiple tips and provides insights about how his time in the ARMY was key factor in teaching him how to be adaptable in both business and life.

This week Chris Perry comes back on the set for his second appearance.  We got caught up on the past year, where he tells us about his last music tour. Then we get the inside scoop of his first appearance on a reality TV show, “Married at First Sight; Honeymoon Island”.  The object of the show is for couples to find their match and Chris walks us through his three-week experience, what happened on and off camera and what he learned from the show. We get Chris’ take on protecting your energy, and he goes deep into the topic of self-love. In addition, he reveals his new podcast concept and his intention of writing a book. Then, he tells us about his younger years, experiencing self-doubt, anxiety, depression and that he once contemplated not “being here anymore”. Chris eventually found strength in prayer, which helped him build his self worth while learning how to forgive himself for the mistakes he made in the past.

This week our guest is Katie Vaz who talks about what it means to be introverted. Katie found true purpose in being labeled an introvert and has built a business around it. She opened an Etsy shop that led to the placement of her greeting cards in a shop in NYC where a literary agent discovered her work. Her agent connected her to a publisher and now Katie is on the verge of signing on for her forth book deal. Katie offers many ideas and tools for introverts and I’m hopeful this episode will provide a better understanding and appreciation for those who are shy and reticent.

Welcome back everyone for another episode of American Real. This week we have a treat for you, as I sit down with mindfulness-based programs teacher, Rachael Leonard. I had lots of questions for Rachael as she covered topics such as anxiety and where emotions show up in our body. She demonstrated the importance of naming the emotion, and by doing so, how it changes our relationship with that emotion. Then, we engaged in a deep conversation about the constant chatter in our minds, which she referred to as the “monkey mind” and how that affects our awareness. Rachael provides some excellent tools with how to deal with distractions, as well as the best way to approach people who may be distracted during a phone conversation, or a face to face meeting. Finally, our guest provides a wealth of knowledge about mindfulness and insights regarding a scientific explanation of the neural mechanisms associated with meditation practice. You may want to have a notepad handy to capture the names of book recommendations she gives and other great tools.

This week on American Real we welcome to the set, world renowned artist, Giles Alexander. I continue to be amazed by the context of conversation that takes place when sitting across from a fellow human being. Giles provides a rare view into the depth of his work, which includes his fascination and understanding of nature and the cosmos. In the artist’s statement from his recent exhibit titled; “Eternity. Far Away. So Close.” he says, “This body of work continues to reflect upon existential themes: Who are we? What is our place in the grander scheme? Is there a knowable truth?” He goes on the say,” In my practice, along with figurative clarity, I am compelled by what cannot be seen, or can be seen only with technology.” We discuss his unique technique, the necessity of failure in order to grow and, “The privilege of Practicing.”

This week, American Real welcomes Todd Collins, who is an Entrepreneur, Reputation Management Educator and Social Media Consultant. Todd is a straight shooter who has learned from past mistakes and has put his skills to work to help others that want to build their reputation and brand.

“On April 23, 2018, the life I had known for 49 years abruptly ended. Irreparably damaged. On the precipice of ending a 24-year marriage, it’s very foundation crumbling, my wife (Jennair Gerardot) violently took the life of the woman with whom I had unexpectedly fallen in love (Meredith Chapman). And then she took her own. I have spent many sleepless nights and months, desperately trying to piece it all together. How did I and so many others miss the signs?” says Gerardot. 

His story appeared September 6, 2019 on ABC’s 20/20. Now, for the first time since the tragedy, Mark Gerardot sits down to share his story in his own words.
