On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 8-5 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It was an offensive outburst from both teams, although the Panthers controlled play from the jump, it was the Canucks who got out to a 2-0 lead, but the Panthers kept pushing as they were able to tie it heading into the seconds, and it was a continuation of the Panthers dominance as they scored five unanswered. There was a stretch where the Cats didn't allow a shot in the first 11 minutes of the game, and even when the Canucks responded to get it to a two goal deficit in the second, the Panthers had a strangle hold where they went a 9 minute stretch without allowed a shot as the Panthers kept winning face-offs and boards battles in the Canucks zone. Panthers went into the third with a lead, but that didn't stop the Canucks from getting two quick ones, but Florida responded less than a minutes later to retake the lead, and the gas was still pressed from then until the end of the game. Florida has 7 different goal scorers, and 16 different point getters, as they set a franchise record for a single game. It was not the type of game where goaltending was friendly as Sergei Bobrovsky gave up 5 goals on 15 shots, but the Panthers pressing offensively helped them get a win in Jeff Petry's 1000th game. There were a lot of firsts on the night regarding goals and points as the Panthers had multiple roster changes with injuries and healthy scratches. Florida had to do it while losing Cole Schwindt to an upper-body injury early in the game and Mackie Samoskevich for a stretch, but the Cats get two regulation points after coming out flat against Tampa Bay the game before. We discuss out three stars, when we knew the game was won, and what the make of the up-and-down scoring? We discuss all of this and more on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.
