On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jim Biringer(@JimBiringer) from Full Press Hockey to break down the Panthers 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche, bouncing back from a poor performance from the Winter Classic with a performance that was playoff-like against a contender in Colorado. The Avs were on the second end of a back-to-back as they played in Raleigh the night before, and were without Devon Toews and also lost Captain Gabriel Landeskog with an upper-body injury after colliding with the goal post in the second period, truly hurt the Avs as the game went on. Panthers were without Seth Jones after the injury he suffered in the outdoor game, and had a new look on their power play one, as now they'll have to deal with life without him. Neither of the goal goals that the Panthers had were assisted as the Panthers battles in the corners created both goals, from Sam Bennett stripping sam Malinski and Reinhart's effort on the forecheck broke Ekblad to a lane before firing a slapshot on the far side on Scott Wedgewood with a screen in front. Panthers ability to close the gaps and getting quick exits out of their end helped them keep up with the speed of Colorado as the Avs still controlled the pace of play. Matthew Tkachuk spoke to the media during the first intermission to discuss his road back to the lineup, will he return at all during the upcoming trip? Sam Bennett also spoke about being left off of Team Canada's Olympic roster, how much did his first 18 games hurt him? Lastly, the Panthers play 26 of their next 41 games away from Sunrise, could the Panthers find a way to grind out wins and make it into the dance? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers/Marlins Historian(@FLACatsHistory and @MarlinsHistory) Francisco Oporta to the show to break down the 2026 NHL Winter Classic from LoanDepot Park in Little Havana. The hype up to the event was everything that South Florida fans could ask for with the amount of people arriving from the start, to the player arrivals, and then the lead up to the game. The actual game itself was not so great for the Panthers where they had almost double the amount of shots than the Rangers, but it was New York who was getting more of the high danger opportunities with screens and being able to get to the middle of the ice off the rush. It was the top end stars of the Rangers that came to play where they were one getting in on all the scoring, especially Mika Zibanijad and Artemi Panarin. Zibanijad scored the first Winter Classic Hat trick ever (third ever in an outdoor game) as the New York Rangers are now 6-0-0 in outdoor games. Did the quality of the ice have to do with the Panthers looking to play more of their dump-and-chase game? There were signs of the Panthers tilting the ice their way similarly to their Conference Final matchup from 2024, so encouraging the amount of time they had in the Rangers end. However, now it's time to turn the page as it's the first losing streak of two since early December, and although the Panthers deserve a lot of credit for climbing back up the standings, they have quickly gotten themselves on the outside looking in. Sunday's game against Colorado will officially reach the halfway point as they face a must-win before hitting the road. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) to break down the Panthers' 3-2 OT loss to the Montreal Canadiens, where the Panthers blew a two-goal lead with five minutes to go. Neither team got on the scoreboard until the third period when man of the hour Brad Marchand, who had a pregame ceremony celebrating getting his 1000th point, got the scoring going with a goal on the power play, Sam Reinhart also added to the scoring with a goal off the draw that beat Sam Montembault passed the should to double the lead. The Panthers however could not be comfortable as the Habs responded less than a minute later, thanks to Cole Caufield, who is making a big case for the US Olympic team. Daniil Tarasov was having the game of his life, making multiple key stops, especially when the Habs took control for the majority of the second period, but one misplay of the puck behind the net as the Habs were coming in on the forecheck resulted in a goal to tie the game at two thanks to Nick Suzuki. Not the first time Suzuki was able to force overtime against the Panthers in the final minutes, as he did it in their previous matchup back in April, and he also converted on the OT winner where Brad Marchand went to the box for roughing after Sam Bennett separated the puck from Mike Matheson, but an extra hit from Marchand (which also hurt Matheson) had the Panthers go on the Penalty kill just over a minute into OT, and despite a long stretch of a shooting lane not being open for Montreal for a good amount of the power play, they were able to find the back of the net with Lane Hutson hitting a cross seam pass to Suzuki parked in the blue paint and with Tarasov committed to his left, he was not able to make the adjustment in time to make the stop onn Suzuki, and it's another win for the Habs over Florida. It's not six wins in a row in the season series for Montreal as it's completely flipped from years passed. The guys give their three duds of the game, when they knew the game was lost, and because it's the last show of 2025, they also reflect on the wonderful year it was. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals, as it was another comeback win with Washington breaking the tie in the third, but the Panthers responding with three unanswered. It was a high event, high scoring period in the first with four goals combined, while the second provided zero. Panthers power play looked a lot better than they did on Saturday night, and got one on the board (Reinhart), and one just a second after one expired and it was the goal that had the Panthers back in the game, thanks to Brad Marchand. The Panthers top line forecheck was a major story in the game as the Luostarinen-Lundell-Reinhart line were a force on whoever they matched up with on the evening, and it set up the game-winning goal to defenseman Aaron Ekblad, and the Cats never looked back. Panthers were able to fight off a Tom Wilson's attempt at a hat trick, including a big stop by Sergei Bobrovsky with the glove while the Capitals were short handed off the rush. It's a regulation win that keeps the Panthers inside of the playoff race in the eastern conference and a stretch of five games in nine nights. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Kassi Coviello(@Kassi_Coviello) of Chick in The Stands to discuss the Panthers 4-2 loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night where the Panthers were able to get 11 power play opportunities as the Bolts ended up going to the penalty box more often after a game with a bunch of post whistle scrums. Florida was able to get one of their opportunities to convert, but not before the Bolts scored first short handed to tie the game at one. The power play also had a bunch of mixing and matching due to some of the players on the top unit also going to the box for coincidental minor penalties, so Florida was working with different personnel all evening long. Florida also were also giving up on the rush due to either errant passes or mistiming pinches, which had got them behind as Tampa Bay scored right before the first period ended. The two also discuss the comparisons between the Panthers before and after the holiday break, the results have been hit and miss, and not necessarily a curation equaling causation. However, the Panthers are currently in a stretch of five games in nine nights where there will only be more than one day off before the Winter Classic on Friday. Forward Matthew Tkachuk stepped on the ice for the first time in a practice setting in a yellow non-contact jersey as he approaches his target date of late December, early January from his offseason surgery of a sports hernia and torn adductor muscle. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here with Jacob Winans (@JakeW_8) to discuss the Panthers 5-2 comeback win, where the Panthers looked lifeless after the first 40 minutes only registering 8 SOG's. The change for the Panthers was switching up the wingers in the middle six (Carter Verhaeghe and AJ Greer) and Head Coach Paul Maurice went on a full rant during a TV timeout. The Panthers were on it from the beginning of the third period where once they got the first goal from Niko Mikkola after a save from Freddie Anderson on Eetu Luostarinen seconds before, the floodgates opened. Before we knew it, the Panthers went from down two goals to up two midway through the third period. It was five different goal scorers for the Panthers that were able to pile it on while registering 14 shots in the third period. Florida were faster to puck retrievals while the Hurricanes were standing still in their own end, and that left Andersen out to dry as he was under siege. The Panthers did it a second time where they came back from multiple goals against the Hurricanes, the Panthers have shown to have a psychological edge, and it showed with Brad Marchand being a leader on a night like tonight. The guys provide their three stars of the game, when they knew the game was won, and discuss their mood of the Panthers being in a playoff spot at the Holiday break.
