Everybody knows what the Miami Dolphins lost this offseason. Today, the Dolphins Squad Show flips the conversation and asks a much more interesting question:

The Miami Dolphins’ preseason is over — and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan immediately went to work reshaping the football team.

Following Miami’s preseason finale against Atlanta, the Dolphins finalized their initial 53-man roster and then unleashed another extraordinary wave of transactions, including seven successful waiver claims, eight new additions to the active roster and 26 total transactions in one day.

Jim “GRIES” Grieshaber is joined by Dolphins insider Kyle Crabbs and former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Jeff Zgonina to break down one of the most eventful roster weekends in recent franchise history.

The show begins with what Miami actually learned from its 17-12 preseason loss to Atlanta. Jeff Hafley again protected most of his starters, Miami finished the preseason 0-3 and scored only one offensive touchdown all preseason — yet several young players continued to emerge, including Chris Bell, Jackson Woodard, Keith Cooper Jr. and Dante Trader Jr.

Then the Squad dives into Sullivan’s massive roster overhaul.

Miami claimed quarterback Brady Cook, tight end Justin Joly, offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Jarrett Kingston, defensive backs Marcellas Dial Jr., Reese Taylor and Julius Wood, while also signing veteran defensive end Malik Herring.

The Dolphins also completely rebuilt the quarterback room behind Malik Willis. Quinn Ewers was traded to Jacksonville, Kyle McCord was acquired from Green Bay, Brady Cook was claimed from the Jets and Mark Gronowski returned on the practice squad.

Kyle breaks down what McCord brings after leading college football with 4,779 passing yards at Syracuse in 2024 and producing 446 yards and four touchdowns during this preseason.

One of Miami’s biggest surprises came at linebacker.

Veteran Tyrel Dodson — who recorded 129 tackles last season — was released after Miami determined rookie Jacob Rodriguez had won the competition. Willie Gay Jr. remains because of his valuable hybrid ability, while young linebackers Jackson Woodard and Kyle Louis also survived Miami’s roster overhaul.

The Squad examines Miami’s youth movement, with players including Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, Kevin Coleman Jr., Jackson Woodard, Keith Cooper Jr., Dante Trader Jr. and Chris Johnson all emerging from training camp as members of one of the NFL’s youngest rosters.

GRIES, Kyle and Z also break down Miami’s new offensive-line depth, secondary additions, the injuries to Trey Moore and Kenneth Grant, the Jarquez Hunter/Tutu Atwell trade sequence, Bradley Pinion’s shaky preseason and where Sullivan may still look to upgrade the roster.

Malik Willis.
