The Miami Dolphins’ preseason is over — and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan immediately went to work reshaping the football team.

Following Miami’s preseason finale against Atlanta, the Dolphins finalized their initial 53-man roster and then unleashed another extraordinary wave of transactions, including seven successful waiver claims, eight new additions to the active roster and 26 total transactions in one day.

Jim “GRIES” Grieshaber is joined by Dolphins insider Kyle Crabbs and former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Jeff Zgonina to break down one of the most eventful roster weekends in recent franchise history.

The show begins with what Miami actually learned from its 17-12 preseason loss to Atlanta. The Dolphins also completely rebuilt the quarterback room behind Malik Willis. Quinn Ewers was traded to Jacksonville, Kyle McCord was acquired from Green Bay, Brady Cook was claimed from the Jets and Mark Gronowski returned on the practice squad.

Kyle breaks down what McCord brings after leading college football with 4,779 passing yards at Syracuse in 2024 and producing 446 yards and four touchdowns during this preseason.

One of Miami’s biggest surprises came at linebacker.

Veteran Tyrel Dodson — who recorded 129 tackles last season — was released after Miami determined rookie Jacob Rodriguez had won the competition. Host Jim “Gries” Grieshaber is joined by Locked On Dolphins host and Dolphins insider Kyle Crabbs, former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Jeff “Z” Zgonina, newcomer Wes Goldberg of Locked On Dolphins Hits and the Squad to examine where Miami stands following its 26-3 preseason loss to the New York Giants.

The Dolphins managed just 102 total yards and three first downs against New York, but the bigger concern coming out of the weekend is the state of Miami’s roster and several important injuries.

Rookie linebacker Trey Moore is headed for ankle surgery after emerging as one of Miami’s most versatile young defenders, while defensive tackle Kenneth Grant remains week-to-week. The Squad also examines the latest on Zach Sieler, Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson.

There are positives.

Kyle breaks down several players who helped themselves against New York, including Jackson Woodard, Josh Priebe, Kevin Coleman Jr., Keith Cooper Jr. and Alex Austin. The crew also discusses the emergence of Dante Trader Jr. and Chris Johnson, Chop Robinson’s impressive summer, and Malik Willis’ overall progress despite a difficult Tuesday practice.

Miami still has major decisions at backup quarterback, wide receiver, offensive-line depth, safety, cornerback and throughout the front seven.

The Dolphins have already begun churning the bottom of the roster, claiming wide receiver Ryan Miller from the New York Giants while waiving Tahj Washington and adding new players as Jon-Eric Sullivan prepares for leaguewide roster cuts.

Kyle identifies the players sitting closest to the roster bubble, while Z explains what an NFL player fighting for one of the final jobs can actually do in his final preseason opportunity to force a coaching staff to keep him.

Finally, the Squad previews Friday’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons, including whether Miami’s starters should play, the unresolved QB2 competition between Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller, the potential preseason debut of Chris Bell, and the final roster battles Jeff Hafley needs resolved.
