Apocalypse Video episodes

  • The Good Son
As a business owner, I cannot stress this enough, folks -- SCREEN YOUR EMPLOYEES! Lest you fall victim to weirdos and possible psychopaths in your employ...such as the case in today’s terrifying episode of Apocalypse Video!
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me are fellow cinephiles and “good sons”, Ryan and Mike (the latter of which is totally not a psychopath, by the way. Don’t be silly...ahem.)
Topics of discussion (as Mike holds a completely normal and non-disturbing screening of the Macaulay Culkin thriller: The Good Son...) include a case of “The Wrong Kid Died!”; we deal with our inner grief at Chekhov’s cliff; and finally, we wonder if this movie could have been better if it starred a Sixth Sense-era Haley Joel Osment as the titular psycho.

This is Dave from Sector 2...signing off. And remember, if one of your employees asks you to come out to his shed to have a look at his dummy named “Mr. Highway”, fire him immediately!

What’s that you say? You want...chocolate? Chocolate?!?! CHOCOLAAAATE!!! Well, don’t fret, because Saturday Morning Apocalypse is back with the conclusion to our look at the Nickelodeon icon, Spongebob Squarepants. And what better episode for all you sweet-tooth’s out there than the Season 3 classic: Chocolate With Nuts (also: Mermaid and Barnacle Boy V).
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me are fellow tooniphiles and lifelong subscribers to Fancy Living Digest, Ryan, Mike, and Ruler of the Wasteland: Immortan Hoof.
Listen as we discuss our own traumatic history selling chocolate bars as children; Spongebob gets all David Lynchian; and finally, Ernest Borgnine divulges the secret of living a long life -- the answer may surprise you (and turn you on).

Are you ready listeners?! I can’t hearrrrr you! That’s right, Saturday Morning Apocalypse is back! And this time we’re finally taking a long overdue journey into the world of Nickelodeon with perhaps the most popular icon to come from the orange slime empire: Spongebob Squarepants!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we bust out our hydrodynamic spatulas are fellow tooniphiles Ryan, Mike, and last, but certainly not least, Ruler of the Wasteland and owner of the Krusty Ratburger, Immortan Hoof.
Listen as we discuss the end of the 90s Nickelodeon renaissance; I reveal my hatred of the infernal machine known as the leaf blower; and finally, we uncover the origin of a classic cartoon mainstay: “The Gross-Up”.

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation - Encounter at Farpoint
    Captain’s Log: Stardate 41153.7
After a long and arduous process of getting human skin grafted to my new hand, I have returned to the store to find everything is in perfect working order. Perhaps...too perfect. To my horror, I have discovered that Michael, the man I left in charge and hoped to one day promote to First Officer, has not only disobeyed my last command, but he has become something of a celebrity in the wasteland as a result. To make matters worse, his newly acquired fame comes from watching a Star Trek film...something he knows I hold very dearly and would relish the chance to discuss if the opportunity arose.
However, due to Michael’s blatant disregard for my command, I have reconsidered his promotion to First Officer and will, in fact, be issuing a punishment instead - a punishment that will last until we have watched and reviewed all 178 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I hope this will show Michael the error of his ways and never to disobey my orders again.
Along for the ride with Michael and I are fellow cinephiles Ryan (a Trek newbie) and Jackie (a confirmed Trekkie).
Topics covered in our first voyage into the final frontier include the futuristic utopia of 80s Star Trek, which feature men wearing skirts and *gasp* a bald Captain; we debate how much “sex and fear” is actually included in this PG rated episode; and finally, we touch on the depressing Picard sequel and its differences with TNG (namely, decapitations and frequent use of F-bombs).

  • Batman: The Animated Series - Almost Got Im
Well, we’ve finally come to the end of our look at Batman: The Animated Series, and what better way to go out than by discussing an episode that is essentially a collection of third acts.

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we decide what is a better murder weapon, a poison dipped bird beak or a really big rock, are fellow cartoon-philes Mike, Ryan, and last, but certainly not least, Ruler of the Wasteland: Immortan Hoof.

Listen as we discuss Batman’s surprisingly good comedic improv skills; the show’s creators offer interesting insight in a very horny commentary; and finally, we talk more about talk show appearances gone wrong as Batman “rides the lightning”.

  • Star Trek (2009)
Acting Managers Log, Stardate...unknown (time’s weird in the Wasteland). Dave has been gone for a month and I'm already feeling...uneasy. I’ll admit, the burden of his duties has taken me off guard. I had assumed that Dave was a lazy, do-nothing leader who relegated all of the grunt work to myself. Alas, I have found that Dave’s duties include hobnobbing with the Barons of Bartertown, making supply runs to Citadel, and collecting payment on late fees from the mutants in Sector 5...by any means necessary. It’s hard work, and I'm beginning to doubt my abilities as a leader.
Thankfully, Jackie popped in for her monthly visit to skim some of our irradiated Skittles and offered some leadership tips, courtesy of the 2009 J.J. Abrams reboot of Star Trek. If this film has taught me anything, the key to being a good leader is to have sex with a lot of women and get choked out...a lot. Needless to say, I am less enthused about the latter.
Listen as we discuss a remake that ditches the metaphors and introspectiveness of the original in favor of sexiness and ‘splosions; we compare Leonard Nimoy’s wholesome Twitter history to William Shatner’s bizarre rant-scapade; and finally, we ask the all important question, “Who let Kirk bring an apple on the Kobayashi Maru test?!”.

  • Batman: The Animated Series - The Forgotten
Well, it only took about a dozen episodes, but I am thankful to say that at long last Immortan Hoof and myself are finally joined by Apocalypse Video mainstays, Mike and Ryan, as we continue our look back at the greatest superhero cartoon ever made: Batman - The Animated Series.
Listen as we discuss the odd inclusion of a sass talking program in the Batwing; Batman seemingly breaks his “no kill” rule as he leaves dozens of people to die in a violent mine explosion; and finally, we’ll talk about the most hard assed, footlong devouring slave driver who’s ever existed: Boss Biggis.

  • Batman: The Animated Series - Feat of Clay (Pt 1 & 2)
Now back to Saturday Morning Apocalypse! On our last episode, we talked about how Simon Trent (aka The Gray Ghost) may or may not have burned down an entire studio in retaliation for his T.V. show getting cancelled. Now, we move on to another actor whose criminal exploits are far less alleged; Matt Hagan, aka Clayface.
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me again as we stick our hands in the mud (so to speak…) is fellow cinephile, Ruler of the Wasteland, and recovering RENUYU addict, Immortan Hoof.
Listen as we discuss the stupidity of Wayne Tech executives who agree to meetings at 3am in abandoned warehouses; we shake our heads at Batman’s shockingly ruthless methods of interrogation; and finally, we start to notice a disturbing trend in the cartoons we’re selecting, mainly body horror and corpse dumping.

Happy New Year, wastelanders! I hope your HBO Max subscription is still active, because we’re kicking off the year right by bringing you the first in what will be a four part series in our Saturday Morning Apocalypse lineup - at long last, we’re finally tackling what may be the pinnacle of kids cartoons: Batman - The Animated Series.
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we switch the atomic batteries to power and the turbines to speed is fellow cinephile, Ruler of the Wasteland, and Patron of the Animated Arts, Immortan Hoof.
Listen as we discuss the TV show intro that DEMANDS that you watch it every time; The Toy Collector shows us that you can never really have enough toys; and finally, we uncover the shocking truth behind Simon Trent’s dark backstory and why you should never meet your heroes.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
Why hello, Wastelanders! This is Mike, your friendly shift leader (now acting manager) of Apocalypse Video. You might be wondering why I’m the one writing the episode synopsis this week, and not Dave. Well, due to an incident last week that resulted in Dave getting a gorilla hand grafted to his arm (see our episode on BMX Bandits), he has left me in charge of the store while he travels to the plains of Gyur to undergo replacement hand surgery from the cyber samurai.
I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally be managing the store. And for my first order of business as acting manager? -- Completely disregard Dave’s last orders and open up our Christmas presents early!
I feel it’s what Dave would have wanted…
I’m your new host and Sonic-stan, Mike, and joining me as we drudge up the bloody memory of the console wars of the 90s is fellow cinephile and Super Nintendo fanboy, Ryan.
Listen as we discuss how Sonic and Mario are the Lennon and McCartney of video games; we break down the career of Hollywood’s Leading “Bland-Man”, James Marsden; and finally, Ryan and I talk about the (wet)fart heard ‘round the world.
