  • Aquamarine
Ok, I’ll admit, Hot Dave’s Fun Summer Film Fest hasn’t exactly gone as planned. We’ve had to suffer the douchey pontifications of Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach and the bafflingly bad box office bomb that was Cutthroat Island. Not to mention the disappearance of our friend Ryan and a hurricane outside that threatens to destroy the store. But we’ve got one movie left, and I’m not about to give up on what could be the best store promotion we’ve ever had -- Nature be damned!!!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we say goodbye to Summer are fellow cinephiles and Tiger Beat subscribers Mike and Jackie.

Listen as we discuss Aquamarine, a film that rewrites the rules of mermaid lore, which now includes mood-nails and wish granting; we pitch a sequel that involves Poseidon fighting Leonard (aka, the Gyro Captain from The Road Warrior); and finally, we try to answer the question that has plagued marine biologists for years: Do mermaids poop?

  • Friday the 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives
He’s back! He’s the man behind the mask...and he crawled out of his hole...again!

That’s right, it’s Friday the 13th, and that means an obligatory episode where I force my staff at Apocalypse Video to watch and discuss one of Jason Voorhees’ many blood soaked escapades. I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we witness Jason living (...again) are fellow cinephiles and camp counselors Mike and Jackie.

Topics of discussion in this terrifying chapter include Jason getting his Double-O status in the opening credits; Tommy Jarvis’ credentials as a monster hunter are called into question after he stupidly brings Jason back to life; and finally, we debate whether or not having sex to the beat of 80s prog-rock is damaging to your health.

Jason Voorhees will return in...Jason X.

  • Cutthroat Island
“Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest” continues with Cutthroat Island, a box office bomb of epic proportions that sank a film studio and killed a marriage. Will this legendary turd change the tides of the Film Fest for the better? Not if Renny Harlin has anything to say about it.

I’m your Host/Captain, Dave, and joining me as we embark on a grand adventure filled with pirates and cute little monkeys are fellow cinephiles and treasure hunters Ryan, Mike and Jackie.

Topics of discussion in this episode include the egregious use of slo-mo; we ponder what could have been if this movie starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner; and finally, we play the Box Office Bomb game, only to fail as spectacularly as the movies themselves.

“Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest” will continue with Aquamarine. Be there AND be square!

  • The Beach
Summer’s finally here, and you know what that means? Heatwaves, rising sea levels, and of course, poorly received Summer blockbusters! I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we attempt to forget about the skin melting temperatures outside are fellow cinephiles Ryan, Mike, and Jackie.

Topics of discussion in this episode include Danny Boyle’s Generation X-style ode to The Lord of the Flies; Leonardo DiCaprio does his best “Patrick Bateman” as he shows us what an American psycho would look like if he took an island vacation; and finally, Tilda Swinton demonstrates what it takes to be a great cult leader as she makes her own messed up version of the Swiss Family Robinson.

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation - Qpid
    Captain’s Log Stardate: 44741.9

With the perverted exploits of Lt. Reginald Barclay behind us, the Apocalypse Video Trek Cast can now move on to Season 4 of Star Trek: The Next Generation with Episode 20’s “Qpid”. To say that I’m a little worried about the return of everyone’s favorite omnipotent trickster would be a massive understatement. What will Q bring us this time? Pig faced soldiers armed with muskets? An impromptu appearance from a Mariachi band?! Or perhaps...the horniest episode of TNG that we’ve seen to date? I await Q’s appearance with bated breath…

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me again are fellow Trek fans and Merry co-hosts, Mike and Jackie.

Topics covered in this assignment include the tricky balance of handling work and horniness; we explain how to properly use the Risa “DTF” Statue; and finally, we wonder if Q’s interest in Picard veers more into the romantic realm than he’s lead on.

The Apocalypse Video Trek-Cast will return with “Darmok”. This is your Captain, Dave, reminding you that the Risa statue is currently outside my quarters - so please do not disturb me for the next 15-20 minutes.

  • Pretty Woman
Look, I like TV as much as the next guy...but come on! For the last two months we’ve been putting out nothing but TV related episodes. I love Star Trek: The Next Generation too, but we did NOT open this store to talk exclusively about television shows! We’re supposed to be spreading the lost art of Cinema back to the Wasteland, damn it! IT’S LITERALLY OUR MISSION STATEMENT!!!

Thankfully, I remembered that I’m the manager of this establishment and can choose what we watch for the show whenever I want. It’s time to throw open the doors of the theater and bask in the magic that is cinema! And what better film to discuss than the early 90s classic, Pretty Woman, a film that launched Julia Roberts into superstardom and continued the trend of rich people showing poor people how great it is to be rich.
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we collectively cringe at Jason Alexander’s character are (former) cinephiles Ryan, Mike, and special guest: Jackie.
LIsten as we discuss Pretty Women’s gritty roots as a Scorsese-esque drama; we wonder why Richard Gere was idolized as a sex symbol; and finally, Hector Elizondo inspires us to create a team of the world’s best Hotel staff as we assemble the Hotel Manager Avengers.

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation - Hollow Pursuits
    Captain’s Log: Stardate 43807.4
After the successful trial episode depicted in “Measure of a Man”, the Apocalypse Video Trek Cast is now into season 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the season which many consider the peak of Captain Picard and company’s adventures on television. And while I’m confident that my crew will enjoy the mid series classics contained herein, I am slightly worried that the perverted exploits of Lt. Reginald Barclay may cast a shadow on our intrepid heroes, as well as shine at light on my own...shall we say...questionable activities in the holodeck…
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we delve into an episode that would make any HR department shudder are fellow Trekkies Mike and Jackie.
Topics covered in this assignment include everything you always wanted to know about the HoloDeck...but were afraid to ask; the bridge crew of the Enterprise apparently has NO TIME for people with anxiety; and finally, we address what is inarguably the most controversial thing from this episode...Guinan’s Cheeto outfit.

I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we discuss the best new age baby taming techniques are fellow Big People Ryan, Mike, and Ruler of the Wasteland, Immortan Hoof.

  • Rugrats: Season 1, Episode 3
Saturday Morning Apocalypse is back! And this time we’re talking about one of the OG Nick Toons, Rugrats!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we pull up our diapers and talk big-people stuff are fellow babies and Reptar fanboys Mike, Ryan, and Ruler of the Wasteland, Immortan Hoof (aka: Nick).
Listen as we discuss our repressed memories of cleaning theater auditoriums after Finding Nemo showings; Reptar shows us the wonder of becoming instantly obsessed with something as a child; and finally, we go on a fever dream with Tommy Pickles as Rugrats gets all trippy on us.

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Measure of a Man
    Captain’s Log: Stardate 42523.7

With our first Trek-Cast behind us, we leave behind the spotty at best episodes of The Next Generation's first season and venture into the more satisfying episodes of season two with the critically acclaimed "Measure of a Man", in which Captain Picard represents Data in a hearing that will not only determine whether or not he is property of the Federation, but a sentient life form.

Joining me as always (as is required as a part of his punishment), is former first officer Mike, Trek-fan Jackie, and special guest Chad, joining us in his holo-form.

Topics covered in this assignment include the introduction of the famous "Riker Beard"; Captain Picard perfects the power move as he demonstrates "The Picard Walk-Out"; and finally, we wonder if Commander Maddox had more on his mind than simply trying to duplicate Data. Come on! Did you see the way he was eyeing Data's ports?!
