Significant Impact: from K Award to Your First Big R01

Are Your Priorities Aligned With Your Actions? (Revisited)

Listen Later

How you prioritize your time will determine whether your R01 gets done first or is a side project that you work on on nights and weekends.

This week on the show, we are revisiting our conversation on priorities so you can be reminded that it’s never selfish to make your career aspirations your #1 priority!

It’s easy to say that converting your NIH K Award to your R01 is the most important thing in your career.

Saying this out loud might be easy, but living this priority out loud isn’t always so simple.

Outside influences have a strong pull on how you spend your time, especially if you haven’t determined what success looks like for you and dedicated your actions to achieving your definition of success.

If you don’t protect your priorities, forward movement in your career sparked by outside influences can feel like progress when, in reality, you are moving further and further away from your ultimate goals.

Listen to this episode to learn why staying on the path to your R01—and your ideal career—starts with defining success and committing to protecting your priorities.

Tune in to this episode of the podcast to learn about:

  • Knowing what you’re unwilling to do
  • Looking past external metrics of success
  • Recognizing when you’re lying to yourself

Listen in and learn how to live your priorities out loud!
