Around The 412

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Penguins!

On today's episode we discuss Kyle Dubas cleaning up during the NHL Trade Deadline. He continued to do what he's done for the majority of his Penguins' tenure and that is add draft capital. In what quickly shaped up as a seller's market, Dubas was able to maximize his assets and get the most in return for guys like Anthony Beuvillier, Luke Schenn and Cody Glass. The team is flush capital and leaves us wondering what could be in store this summer. Since coming out of the deadline, we've seen Tristan Jarry return to the NHL level and look much better than he had prior. Yes, it's a small sample size and low bar, but if this keeps up, could it impact the team's draft position? We are still on Sidney Crosby point per game watch and that is honestly what we are watching for most at this point!

Smitty and Tyler discuss all the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It's that time of year! The NFL Draft is 7 weeks away and free agency starts next week. The NFL Combine is in the rear view, and we look ahead to pro days. We thought this would be the perfect time to jump into our first mock draft and see what boxes we can check. Is a trade back in Round 1 the path the Steelers should be looking to take? If Emeka Egbuka and Kenneth Grant are both on the board, which route would the team go? Will they be the team that stops slides in the form of Kaleb Johnson and Tyliek Williams?

Let's discuss all of this and more!

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Penguins!

On today's episode we discuss Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins continuing to make some moves ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. The team sent recently acquired defenseman Vinny Desharnais to the San Jose Sharks for a 2028 5th round pick, clearing a 2026 salary in the process. They also sent Michael Bunting and a 2026h 4th round pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Tommy Novak and Luke Schenn. What else could the team do before the Trade Deadline? Could they swing a massive trade sending out Rickard Rakell or Erik Karlsson? Will Anthony Beuvillier be on his way out?

Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pittsburgh Pirates season is near as we begin spring training! This is normally the time of year where we get excited for the upcoming season and false optimism is renewed! Does it feel differently this time around though? With the team not spending much in free agency despite the rotation they have, is there a reason to be excited? They did add even more to the rotation with the quality signing of LHP Andrew Heaney.

What are we watching for most this spring? How important is a Jack Suwinski bounce back? What about Paul Skenes and Jared Jones adding to their pitch arsenals? Will Ke'Bryan Hayes be able to manage is back issues? Will Bryan Reynolds have a more complete season? How will Oneil Cruz transition to the outfield? Can David Bednar and Colin Holderman rebound for the backend of the bullpen?

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Penguins!

The 4 Nations tournament concluded with Canada defeating the US in a thrilling finale to win it all. When the players care as much as they did, it's hard not to join them in being passionate about it. This tournament proved to be an awesome showcase and really set the stage for the next Olympics.

The Penguins goaltending issues continue to rear their ugly head and show maybe there's something deeper at play here than Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic just not being very good. Andy Chiodo needs to be on the hot seat with the way Joel Blomqvist has looked in his limited time here as well. We don't need to ruin another goalie's career under his watch.

The passing of Pittsburgh icon Mike Lange shook the city and sports world in a way that only those with his impact possibly could. When you think about Penguins hockey, Mike Lange is right there with Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Jaromir Jagr and Evgeni Malkin for names you attach to the franchise. A synonymous name with legendary calls galore, he will be greatly missed by everyone.

Smitty and Tyler discuss all the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The offseason is here, so why don't we walk you through what we believe would be the ideal offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers?! We both go through current players on the roster we would extend such as TJ Watt and DeShon Elliott, if there is anybody such as Larry Ogunjobi we would cut and if there's any pending UFAs such as Justin Fields we would like to retain.

We then dive into free agency where we'd like to check boxes as cornerback via the likes of Asante Samuel Jr. and Nate Hobbs. Could Milton Williams make sense along the defensive line? Will they add to the WR room via free agency or the draft in the form of Darius Slayton or Deebo Samuel? Could they have a FA RB on their radar? Should they make a splash for a Mekhi Becton to upgrade upon Mason McCormick and provide tackle depth?

The NFL Draft is up next. Who is the ideal pick at 21? Is it Emeka Egbuka or Kenneth Grant or somebody else? Depending on which direction they go there, how could they check the boxes the rest of the way?

Let's discuss all of this and more!

Smitty and Tyler discuss all the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It's that time of the year folks! The Super Bowl is in the rearview mirror and the NFL Draft is not quite here. It's time where rumors come in abundance, and we are here to discuss some of the names we've heard linked to the team as the new league year approaches. With the salary cap set to balloon, the Steelers can be even bigger free agent spenders than we had already anticipated. Will they run it back with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields or will they go a completely different direction? Will an addition like Asante Samuel Jr. or Nate Hobbs fix the secondary? Will Deebo Samuel, Christian Kirk or Darius Slayton join a WR room starving for talent?

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Penguins!

Kyle Dubas has made his first major trade of the season, sending Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a conditional first-round pick, Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais and Melvin Fernstrom. How do we evaluate this move and what does it say about the direction of the team? Could Dubas rebuild this club quicker than we thought?

We also discuss the team's recent stretch and Sidney Crosby's upper-body injury that may make him miss time for the first time in 3 seasons.

Smitty and Tyler discuss all the latest surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cleveland Browns superstar EDGE rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade this past week. A pillar for the team on and off the field, Myles has grown frustrated with the direction of the team and no longer believes in their vision. We discuss whether TJ Watt should feel the same way about the Steelers and if a similar move could make sense. The argument could be made that Garrett is giving the Browns an easy out to kickstart a rebuild. Should Steelers fans want the same?

We then discuss the team's top 5 needs heading into the off-season and if we feel like those needs should be addressed in free agency, the NFL Draft or maybe both.
