Around The 412

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we discuss the Steelers' preseason opener against the Houston Texans! Football is back at Acrisure stadium, and we talk about what and who stood out in their return to game action. Monty Adams, DeMarvin Leal, Ryan Watts, Jeremiah Moon, etc... all had nice nights. Payton Wilson had a night of very high highs and low lows as well. Justin Fields worked as QB1 and operated the offense pretty well, outside of some bad snaps with center Nate Herbig. We also touch on the Brandon Aiyuk latest and Markus Golden's sudden retirement. All of this and more on today's Around The 412 Steelers Show!

Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pittsburgh Pirates season may as well be over. Just one week after there was a large sense of optimism surrounding the team following their approach at the trade deadline, they had a homestand that just may have been the nail in the coffin of the 2024 season. As they continue to lose ground and fall further back, we look at the cause. Look no further than the backend of the bullpen. Colin Holderman and David Bednar shoulder a lot of the blame for where this team now sits. It's not hard to wonder if we will even see this team climb back to .500 Let's discuss!

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we discuss Smitty's time at training camp and who & what stood out to him while he was there. How are the rookies progressing? Is Beanie Bishop taking a firm hold on the slot CB spot? Who will step up with Roman Wilson set to miss multiple weeks? How much does Tomlin love the physical nature provided in the training camp setting? How has Justin Fields looked getting the majority of QB1 reps, as Russell Wilson continues to be limited? Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Pirates. They did it! The Pirates added a couple of bats at the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline. While Bryan De La Cruz and Isiah Kiner-Falefa aren't names that will make you scream World Series contender, they were much needed additions with what this club was missing. Kiner-Falefa is having an awesome season and can play anywhere in the field. De La Cruz fills a massive void in RF, and has 18 home runs on the season. They also acquired Jalen Beeks for the bullpen, moved Martin Perez to dump some salary and made a few other minor trades that could prove fruitful down the road. Let's discuss!

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we discuss the team kicking off 2024 training camp at Saint Vincent College and what took place on day one of practice. Russell Wilson sat out of team drills due to a calf injury that he got an MRI on. Justin Fields was the beneficiary as he got to spend time with the starters in his absence. Pat Freiermuth moved all around the formation and shined on day one. DeShon Elliott got the first crack in the slot corner role, with Damontae Kazee coming on as the extra DB. What can we expect to see from this offense as we progress through the rest of the Summer? All of this and more on today's Around The 412 Steelers Show!

Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates went 4-2 in their first two series post all-star break against the Phillies and Cardinals. They continue to get the starting pitching they need from Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and let's throw Luis Ortiz into that mix as well with what he's provided. The question is will this team commit to this group and do what they can to help them out offensively? Names such as Jazz Chisholm, Josh Bell, Brent Rooker and Lane Thomas have been linked to the Pirates. Will Ben Cherington and Bob Nutting pony up what it takes to acquire a bat or bats to get this team where they want to be? Let's discuss!

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we discuss what and who we are most looking forward to seeing as training camp approaches. Who do we think will stand out and who needs to stand out to secure a job? How will the WR room shakeout behind George Pickens? What is the status of Cole Holcomb? Will Pat Freiermuth and/or anyone else get a contract extension? Who wins a job at the slot CB spot? All of this and more on today's Around The 412 Steelers Show!

Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates begin their unofficial second half of the season, still very much in the thick of things. At .500 and firmly in the playoff mix, they have their work cut out for them out of the gate facing the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals. We question the setup of the rotation to begin, as neither Mitch Keller nor Paul Skenes will pitch in their first series back. With the trade deadline looming, will Ben Cherington and co. add a bat in the form of Brent Rooker, Jazz Chisolm or somebody else to compliment Bryan Reynolds? Let's discuss!

Smitty and Tyler talk all things Pittsburgh Penguins. Jesse Marshall of The Athletic and McKeens Hockey joins the show to go over the Penguins' offseason thus far. Was bringing back Alex Nedeljkovic the right call? What do we make of the Reilly Smith and Kevin Hayes trades? What about the free agent signings of Anthony Beauvillier, Matt Grzelcyk and others? How does Jesse feel about their draft haul? Is the direction of the team clear at this point? Let's dive into all of this and more!

Smitty and Tyler are back to talk all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode we do something different. In the dead period of the summer just ahead of training camp, we thought it would be fun to go back and forth in the style of a fantasy football draft and select Steelers players to build our best rosters. Who came away with the better team? Let us know in the comments!
