I have been watching on social media where house flippers and DIYers have been taking some stunning homes and quite frankly ruining them with brick stains and chalk paint. You see this on some of the HGTV shows and I am seeing more and more of it on social media.

Some of these projects have been cheered on by people that just love to put that stuff everywhere. The issue as I see it... is that you took a nice original house with some beautiful architectural details and ruined them...while damaging your homes value at the same time.

Lets talk about remodeling and updating without damaging your homes value and keeping it architecturally significant.

Smart Home tech makes a ton of people nervous... maybe its not understanding its security or lack of understanding about how it all works. I bring in Mike Duncan from Comcast/Xfinity who fully understands how all of these things work together. This is no commercial content here as I just have brought in a leading expert so that we can talk in easy to understand terms of how you can save money, save energy, and give yourself added security by adding a few smart home systems to your home. I couldn't believe it either. In Seattle they have a (yes this is what they call it) "Housing Affordability" law that forces homeowners to pay this fee on a building permit. We will talk with the Institute for Justice about how they are trying to help out the homeowners by fighting back on this expensive fee for a remodel. A special thanks to Bill Maurer for coming on the show today. We will also be talking about 8 everyday things that are dirtier than a toilet....This might make you clean a few things just a little more around your house.

All that and so much more on this weeks Around the House with Eric G
