  • Weirdos Welcome From Cynthia Baseman Wait Til You Meet Rae And Braiden
Weirdos Welcome, a debut novel with a young adult love story that’s messy, awkward, and weirdly wonderful—just like life. It celebrates neurodivergent first love told from alternating points of view: Rae struggles over masking her autism, navigating social situations and telling people exactly what she thinks—whether they like it or not. Braden acts Just Fine even as his anxiety sends him spiraling over things like quitting the basketball team and the air quality in the cafeteria.
Author Cynthia Baseman is a library advocate who writes stories that sit at the intersections of healing, humor, and humanity. A PW BookLife Editor’s Pick, her first novel is a funny and fiercely compassionate story that champions owning your oddness, standing up when it’s easier to disappear, and finding that person who doesn’t ask you to be, or pretend to be, “normal.”

  • Celebrating Dolly Parton With Music Historian Martha Ackmann
In Ain't Nobody's Fool: The Life and Times of Dolly Parton, Martha Ackmann chronicles the life of an American Original. From her impoverished childhood in the Smoky Mountains to international stardom as a singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist, Dolly Parton has exceeded everyone's expectations except her own. During a time when the Beatles set the standard for contemporary music, Dolly appeared on a local country music television show that her high school classmates thought was pure cornpone. The day after her high school graduation, she boarded a bus for Nashville, but record executives turned her down. One said her voice sounded like a screech owl. When Dolly finally got her foot in the door, her talent and focus catapulted her to the top of country charts, the pop world, and movie stardom. Yet her success came at a price. Shunned by many in Nashville who saw her ambition as a betrayal of her country music roots, Dolly became the target of death threats, lawsuits, and a judge who threatened to throw her in jail. She nearly collapsed on-stage and later succumbed to depression that pushed her to the brink, but she refused to be counted out and came back stronger than ever developing Dollywood, the amusement park that became the economic engine of East Tennessee, and founding the Imagination Library that provides free books to children around the world. Her philanthropy to health organizations led to creation of the Moderna COVID vaccine. And, finally, she returned to her roots, recording bluegrass albums that became the most celebrated of her unparalleled 60-year career.Ain't Nobody's Fool is a deep dive into the social, historical, and personal forces that made Dolly Parton one of the most beloved and unifying figures in public life and includes interviews with friends, family members, school mates, Nashville neighbors, members of her band, studio musicians, producers, and many others. It also features never before seen photographs and unearthed documents shedding light on her family's hardscrabble life. More than anything, Martha Ackmann's fresh and animated new book proves Dolly Parton knows just who she is and she ain't nobody's fool.

  • You Can't Label Prog Rock Derek Ferguson Explores Refestramus's New Album
The band is ecstatic to be included in ProgDay.
“There’s a motivated energy in the band,” says Refestramus leader/drummer/songwriter Derek Ferguson. “ProgDay is exactly the kind of listener-first crowd this band was built for.”
Refestramus’ sound leans on vintage rock hardware—Hammond organ, distorted guitars. The lyrics pull source material from Bulgakov, Kurosawa, Orthodox iconography, and Slavic folklore, all of it delivered with a refusal to take itself too seriously. For fans of Kansas, Styx, Van der Graaf Generator, Crack the Sky, and Flying Colors.
Their latest album, “Morri’s Rock Boutique,” produced by Ian Beabout, features guest appearances from David Jackson (Van der Graaf Generator), Joe Deninzon (Kansas/Stratospheerius), Rick Witkowski (Crack the Sky), and members of Octarine Sky. Ferguson says 'Morri’s' was “created to be heard at ProgDay,” as the album continues to grow in the rock world.
Progressor.net calls the album “a blast from beginning to end.” Prog writes that “Morri’s Rock Boutique” has “a smile on its face [that] is infectious.” Music Street Journal adds: “Unique and innovative… entertaining.”
Refestramus members performing at ProgDay include Ferguson, along with Mitch Lawrence (saxophone), and Octarine Sky’s Jan Christiana (lead vocals, bass) and Dyanne Potter Voegtlin (keyboards, vocals), plus Rocket Scientist and Interdiscipline (Crimson tribute) guitarist Bob Wolkotte.
Founded in May 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Refestramus’ catalog also includes “Decoupage” (2021) and “Intouríst” (Melodic Revolution Records, 2024). The band made its European debut in November 2025 at the HRH Prog 15 Festival in Great Yarmouth, UK, with David Jackson joining them on saxophone—a set Festivals For All called “a superb Chicago band… almost Gong-esque.”
The group is celebrating their song “Hell or NYC?!” included in ProgUK’s current Melodic Revolution Records’ 20th Anniversary sampler and this weekend’s Immersive Audio Release of “Morri’s Rock Boutique.”  progday.net/Bands-Refestramus.html

  • Gardens Of The Galaxies From Mark Springer What If Adam And Eve Hadn't Eaten The Fruit
If Adam & Eve Never Gave Into Temptation                             What could life have been like for Adam and Eve if they had never disobeyed God?This is the interesting premise of Gardens in the Galaxies, the new speculative fiction novel by Mark Springer. It's his second work of fiction, following Flesh Becomes Words, the debut novel that blends science fiction with spirituality.Join Adam and Eve in this fictional adventure as they await judgement and sentencing for the original sin of disobeying God. Travel back in time with the first couple and an angel named Josiah who shows them how life began on earth. Then move into an unrealized future of gardens in the galaxies, the high life that God had always planned for them and all of mankind. Finally, return with Adam and Eve to their present situation as you witness the judgement and sentencing of their eternal fate by an all-merciful but just God.The book is speculative fiction; historical fiction that poses a question of what would have happened if a single event happened a different way. In this case, what would have happened if Adam and Eve did not disobey God in the Garden of Eden and bring about the fall of mankind?“The foundation of the book is based on an assumption of the truth of the scriptures,” says author Springer, “and it explores the connection between Adam and Eve, the first Adam, and Jesus Christ, proclaimed in the scriptures as being the "last Adam" and what that means for all of us today.”
