  • Deborah Kasdan Releases The Book Rollback The World A Sisters Memior
Few memoirs fully depict an entire family’s experience when one member suffers from severe and chronic mental illness. Debut author Deborah Kasdan accomplishes just that in ROLL BACK THE WORLD: A Sister’s Memoir. Threaded throughout this love letter to her older sister are stories of four siblings and their parents. Each one walks a tightrope between self-care and deep concern for Rachel, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of twenty-five. It takes thirty years and numerous admissions to five psychiatric hospitals before a compassionate social worker finally catches a glimpse of the poet inside her and discovers a way to assist her in living on her own. As the second sibling, the author, Deborah Kasdan, struggled for decades with painful emotions of grief, shame, and survivor's guilt before deciding to share her story, and her family's. Delving into her parents' lives, she traces the emotional impact of significant historical events such as World War II and the Cold War on Rachel's childhood. She illustrates how each family member responded to Rachel's psychiatric crisis and its devastating aftermath based on their own individual histories. Kasdan's memoir provides detailed accounts of how personal and legal battles with the mental health system exacerbated distress and conflict within the family, hindering their efforts to support Rachel. Given the magnitude of the current crisis—with government estimates stating that fourteen million adults had serious mental illness in 2021—it becomes evident how loving families can become a tragically wasted resource.

  • Author Amy Price Releases The Book Behind The Door
BEHIND THE DOOR by Amy Price is the disturbing true story of the notorious Cecil Hotel in downtown LA, told by its general manager for a decade and star of the controversial Netflix documentary series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel When Amy Price took a temporary design job at an Art Deco hotel in Los Angeles to help a friend, she had no idea the path it would lead her down. The hotel was the infamous Cecil Hotel, located at the foot of Skid Row. She would soon learn about the hotel's notoriety-since its opening in 1927, there had been any number of deaths by suicide, and some of the residents included the serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger. Price's temporary job eventually turned into a permanent one, as the general manager. Price recounts her unlikely path in her memoir BEHIND THE DOOR: The Dark Truths and Untold Stories of the Cecil Hotel (William Morrow; On sale October 3, 2023; $30.00, 240 pages; ISBN 978-0-06-325765-8). From the very beginning of what was supposed to be a temporary job, it was Price's mission to turn the hotel into a more-welcoming place and a place that could survive constant challenges. As general manager, Price was one of the key figures who was interviewed for Netflix's highly rated documentary series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. Before being interviewed, she was told by producers that the series would focus on the hotel's history and would touch on the Elisa Lam tragedy. So she was surprised that the actual focus of the series ended up being almost solely about the mysterious death of Lam, a haunting case that captivated millions and led to its own controversies and unwarranted personal attacks on Amy. BEHIND THE DOOR touches on the fallout from the documentary, but it is about so much more than that. This is Price's story, but also the "untold stories of all the tenants and guests who would probably otherwise remain anonymous." Price got things done while she managed the hotel, often dealing with harrowing occurrences (indeed, 80 people died over the 10 years she worked there). But she never lost sight of the humanity of the people she encountered there, even if they had been discarded and abandoned by society. Her humanity shines through in every chapter. Amy Price is the former general manager of downtown Los Angeles's notorious Cecil Hotel. She lives with her dogs in West Hollywood

  • Susie Banikarim And Jessica Bennett From The Podcast In Retrospect
Is there a cultural moment from your past that looks different in retrospect? Maybe it's a scandalous tabloid story seared into your teenage brain or a political punchline that just feels wrong now. Each week on IN RETROSPECT, Emmy-winning journalist Susie Banikarim and New York Times editor Jessica Bennett revisit a pop culture moment from the 80s and 90s that shaped them - to try to understand what it taught us about the world, and a woman's place in it. • Self Proclaimed Witch Devin Forst Releases The Book Witches Through History
Written and illustrated by a practicing witch, this dramatic oracle set features a book and card deck inspired by the magical and mysterious tales of the witches, familiars, deities, and items within the pages of this striking guide. Witches through History includes archetypes, profiles, and true accounts of women who were thought to have spoken with spirits or made bargains with the Devil—and how they used their midnight powers to help or harm members of their community—the instruments and methods of the craft, the use of familiar spirits, and various methods of witch-finding and hunting. • Jeremy Johnson From Core Broken Heart Syndrome And Day Dream Junkie
CORE is not your average hard rock band. Hailing from South Dakota, they are sure to be the next big thing to come out of the Midwest. For fans of Coheed & Cambria, Alter Bridge and 10 Years, CORE approaches songwriting honestly and are dedicated, passionate musicians. This power trio provides a tight rhythm section that produces a brutal sound, balanced by tender yet powerful vocal harmonies reminiscent of Layne Staley. Equal parts heavy riffs and delicate acoustics, CORE's music is emotionally charged and unique.

They have opened for the following popular national acts: SHINEDOWN, SEVENDUST, ALTER BRIDGE, CANDLEBOX, BUCKCHERRY, POWERMAN 5000, SALIVA, ORGY, SAUL, VRSTY, TRAPT, RED, SAVING ABEL, POP EVIL, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, EVE TO ADAM, CANDLELIGHT RED, SEBASTIAN BACH, EVAN'S BLUE, NEW MEDICINE, CAVO, DAYS OF THE NEW, SEASON'S AFTER, WES BORELAND (of Limp Bizkit, and Black Light Burns), THE DREAMING, CINDER ROAD, DROPPING DAYLIGHT, & CHRIS VOLZ as well as many others.

Fall of 2023 will see the release of new music by CORE, who have a devoted national following & are currently in support of their much anticipated fourth album Broken Heart Syndrome.

Originally released in 2015, the band wanted to redo the album independently. The result is a blistering 120+ minute rocker, featuring the original 11 tracks in a much punchier and in-your-face mix, as well as acoustic versions of each song stripped naked to their purest form. As of this release, the response has been more than 900,000 YouTube views with almost 20% of those coming from the song "Daydream Junkie," which premiered on June, 15th 2020.

  • Elana K Arnold Releases The Book The Blood Years
Inspired by her grandmother’s childhood experiences in Holocaust-era Romania, Michael L. Printz honoree & National Book Award finalist Elana K. Arnold weaves an unforgettable tale of love and loss in the darkest days of the twentieth century. After their father abandoned the family seven years ago, Frederieke and Astra Teitler’s grandfather did his best to provide for the sisters and shield them from antisemitism. But when war breaks out in Europe, their beloved home, Czernowitz, once considered a safe haven for Jewish people, becomes increasingly dangerous. First the Russians, then the Germans, invade. Almost overnight, Frederieke and Astra’s world changes, and every day becomes a struggle: to keep their grandfather’s business, their home, and their lives. As those that threaten Frederieke and her family close in around them, she must decide between holding on to her life or letting go of everything that has ever mattered to her—a choice she may not even have the chance to make.

  • Rabi Aryeh Ben David Releases The Book The Secret Of Love
This is a book about love, about how to become a more loving human being. It has been inspired by the writings of the contemporary mystic, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook (1865-1935). Author Aryeh Ben David says, "Though this may not be what we learned in school or synagogue, becoming a more loving human being is really what Judaism is all about. And even more than becoming more loving human beings in our personal relationships—don’t we sense that the larger world today is in desperate need of more love? The brokenness and anger present in Jewish life seems irreparable. Jews from different religious denominations and ideological views cannot sit together, much less respect each other’s positions and love each other. Our political arena has become toxic and awash with animosity."
