January 17, 2024Too Patreon or not to Patreon
We are back after winter break and kicking this year off with a discussion about Patreon for Artists and for our podcast. Do you have a Patreon? Tell us about your Patreon and what you are doing and we may give you a shoutout and share your info! We'd love to hear from you, email us at [email protected] or DM us on Instagram at @artistssoarpodcast
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
Stephanie was doing the research: how to fill the gap between being small and the large artists/podcasters to gain income?
The threshold of when to get a Patreon, again, falls to the numbers: you need a lot of fans/followers before it is worth the time and money to do a Patreon.
2-3% will convert from one platform to the next. So focus on the 1st platform before moving onto another.
The marketing of the Patreon and providing value on Patreon is the equivalent effort to other marketing avenues.
Until, add a donation button to your website, or add a donation button to your newsletter.
Do you have a Patreon? Tell us about your Patreon and what you are doing and we may give you a shoutout and share your info! We'd love to hear from you, email us at [email protected]

January 10, 2024Best of 2023 - Cat Coquilette as a Normad Watercolor Artist and Art Instructor
We are bringing you the best of and most listened to episode while we are vacationing during the holidays. We'll be back with you before you know it! Until then, enjoy this episode where we chat with Cat Coquillette about her journey from a graphic designer to a nomadic, licensed artist.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
What was the #1 thing you wish you would've known?
Not hold myself back due to limiting beliefs or imposter syndrome.
What was your background before you become a digital nomad?
Cat graduated with a dual major and went to work at a local branding/graphic design agency.
Where was the shift to travel and create?
Cat took baby steps to start her travels and slowly developed a network of other digital nomads.
What kind of safety concerns did you have or precautions did you take?
It was a concern in the beginning, but the thoughts are always worse than what actually happens. Take the same precautions you'd take here in the States.
Google the place you are going along with the word "scams".
What are some tips to overcome your fears and imposter syndrome?
Don't self-label yourself.
Take baby steps - like sharing what you are confident about or taking a small trip with a friend(s). As you do it more, you get more comfortable.
What were some of the baby steps you took to get picked up for licensing?
Society6 is one of the industry leaders for Print on Demand. Identify the metrics for success, like money, and the brand power that Society6 has with the search engines.
By saturating Society6 with her work, she is easily found by brands.
What strategy would you recommend to artists now that Society6 is oversaturated?
Try many and see what will work, then focus on the one that works for you.
Consider the audience that the Print On Demand site focuses on. Review the top-selling designs to see if your artwork.
What are some recommended Print on Demand locations you recommend?
See below for the resources
Brand new class - draw animal silhouettes in procreate.
The most popular skillshare class is Procreate for Beginners.
Blooms and Shrooms is the most popular class in 2022.
Do you have any art licensing classes?

In this art podcast Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie chat about what they've discovered when they let go of perfectionism.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
Show up and do, eventually the work will be what you want or what resonates with people.
Make the mark - not everything is going to be a masterpiece.
Letting go of perfection you suddenly become more interesting.
Connection over perfection.
Creation over perfection.

December 20, 2023Keywords and Collections: Navigating the Art Marketing Landscape
In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie just chat about why and how Stephanie does marketing research before she starts an art project, a blog post etc., and the intention behind painting collections.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
Some keyword research tools Stephanie uses: Sale Samurai, MerchInformer, Ubersuggest, (affiliate links).
Research how other artists prepare for collections.
Although not specifically stated: you can research other artists without comparing your art to their art - instead compare the processes.
Remember who you are trying to marketing to. Talk about it in terms of how it can mean something to them, so they can relate to the piece.
Not every piece has research ahead of time, sometimes it is just about the painting...

December 13, 2023Art Therapy -Is it Right For Everyone?
In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie just chat about whether they use or view art as therapy. In Jules' case she didn't turn to art to help her healing. The point of the episode to say that it is ok to NOT turn to art for therapy - there is absolutely no right way to grieve or handle what is going on in your mind and body. Find your way.
We'd love to hear what worked for you.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
During Julie's cancer treatments she didn't find art as an escape because of her art generally comes from a place of joy.
Stephanie finds art as her way of expressing her views of the world.
Some of the things you can do you don't have to publish.
For those going through something, please talk with someone to process.

December 06, 2023Fueling Your Productivity: Ways To Stay Motivated and Focused
In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie chat about ways they are staying motivated with specific techniques and mindset that we and others have.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
Sometimes a deadline is motivation - like Jule's advent calendar with coloring pages. check it out here: https://www.juliemstudios.com/day-02
Going to a group social painting can be motivating! Which is an artist date (taken from Artist Way,)
Take on one thing at a time until it is a habit, then add another. It takes 45 days to make something into a habit (not 21 days).
Set a timer - Pomodoro technique - to stay motivated using a timer to work on x for a certain amount of time.
Stephanie uses Insight Timer App - Workplace - Get Into Focus - Length, then pick the time.
Music can help motivate too! but be respectful of those around you.
The people who succeed are the ones who don't give up. Know what you are doing matters. And proving people wrong.
All "failures" are a learning pivot.

November 22, 2023Preparing or Not Preparing For An Exhibition
In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie talk about exhibitions and what Stephanie did to prepare for an upcoming exhibition (or didn't prepare) at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment and we get into our chatty selves.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at [email protected]
Key Talking Points
Stephanie is having an exhibition at Lowe Mill from 11/22 - 2/3/2024. The original concept had evolved, as did I and thankfully Lowe Mill was accepting of this change.
Stephanie's approach to a painting is more subconscious work so she isn't able to create specific pieces for a specific subject. Is that something you can do?
