Most DSO’s are in agreement – there are many hats to wear! To me, that’s part of the fun buuuut it can also be part of the challenge – managing it all can almost impossible. Happily, we don’t have to, however learning HOW to delegate, in an effort to reduce your own overwhelm and increase your positive mental health can be complicated. Anxiety, overwhelm, competing priorities – these are all pain points shared with me often by the DSO’s I speak with. These are symptoms however, not the cause. Over the last couple of months, I have been sharing the strategies that support me to have Dance Studio Success… whilst they aren’t particularly sexy, they work, and using a Project Management Approach is just another part of the over all strategy. It seems like FOREVER ago that I was juggling babies, toddlers and everything in between whilst running my studio, but in the same breath, wasn’t it just yesterday!? Have you heard the epic quote from James Clear’s book ‘Atomic Habits’, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems” Whilst much of Clears’ work has a focus on personal development, this quote is true in business also. In this episode I explain how systems set me up for success from DAY ONE. I have always tried to ensure that my studio can run without me, and that means systems, systems, systems… but, of course, it’s easier said than done. Listen as I chat through some of the mindset shifts I needed to enable me to build a healthy ‘Playbook’ of systems which has led to consistency of service delivery for my customers, better delegation and clarity for my team AND more freedom for me as the business owner. '

Today I unpack a little discovery I made when Liam, my son, tested positive to COVID -19. Due to isolation requirements and having to stay home, the time away from the studio reminded me the importance of getting out of my team’s way – allowing them time (and space) to operate without me (which they are 100% capable of doing) and how I also need time without them (or without anyone really!) John Maxwell once said as the leader we need to “pave the way, lead the way, and then get out of the way!” and if I was more eloquent, I would have said that too. Instead, I tell this story, laugh at my own jokes and set you a challenge – all in 16 minutes of ‘At The Barre’ gold – see you there, champagne in hand!

Nothing gets my back up more than bad customer service. Lately I have been trying to do business with a number of organisations, if only they would return my call or email. Good Golly, it honestly shouldn’t be that hard! In this episode I am excited to announce a new range of workshops made exclusively for customer service and admin teams within dance studios. There are days that I feel like all I do is make decisions. SO much so that ‘decision fatigue’ is real. I get home and the kids ask “what’s for tea” and I honestly could not care – could someone else just decide!? Leaders can alleviate decision fatigue by sharing some of the load with their team – you don’t have to do it all alone. But what if you don’t have a team? Or your team are not quite at that level? I always come back to the data…. In this episode I’m going to share with you how to make data driven decisions – honestly, if you have the right data, most decisions become easy, or at least easier.
