Are you constantly trying to learn how to be more productive, and how to manage your time better? It seems like this is one of those things that is always a work in progress. A couple of years ago I uncovered a wonderful hack and it changed the way I work – I learnt that instead of managing time, to rather focus on managing energy.

In this episode I will be discussing the role many of us play (or should play!) and that is the role of a coach and mentor. Although time consuming, the time we spend coaching and developing our team, will not only impact them positively, but also contribute to business success. Win win hey!? If you enjoy this episode and want to dive deeper into the concepts I introduce, I’d love to invite you to my March Group Coaching workshop on March 22nd at 12pm AEST. We will unpack how to get your team to team to maintain standards and how you can coach them to improved performance, with lots of examples, templates and time for questions. If you are overworked and overwhelmed with a relentless ‘IN’ pile (yep, how did we get there when its not even February!) then this episode is for you.
Chelsea Spresser is a Virtual Assistant for Dance Studio Owners and just may be the angel you’re looking for. Chelsea and I chat (mostly) about how a VA can help lessen the load and take some of those dreaded tasks off your plate. Of course, since we are At The Barre there are a few side conversations on the way – enjoy those too!

Joining me At The Barre today is Ali Philips, who I have described as having a tonne of wisdom, with a side serve of sass. Dialling in from Canada, Ali is the founder of BAM Dance in Brisbane and Canada as well as a Leadership Coach and Author and facilitator of a 10 week dance teacher Teacher Training Course.
Ali and I talk about ‘doing the work’ – for Ali that means being curious and asking questions, for me it means looking into the corners to uncover what is behind my responses or actions. Effectively, doing the work is asking questions, even when it’s uncomfortable.
This episode literally ‘dances’ across a number of subjects including:
• Our money stories
• Our fears
• Having awareness / being accepting of ourselves and others / taking responsibility
• Embodied Leadership

Once upon a time we placed (quite expensive) advertisements in the local paper for the last 3 weeks of January, and the enquiries flooded in.
15 years on and my local paper doesn’t exist anymore, and advertising, for the most part, is now digital. Keeping up with Facebooks changes, knowing what kind of ad to run and what kind of money to spend is exhausting.
Do you know if your ad is performing well? And if not do you know what to tweak? Do you even WANT to know!? I’ve decided I don’t, but I do. In that I don’t want to know all the things, but I do want someone to do them for me.
It’s why I connected with Jennifer Randall from thejenniferrandall.com Jennifer has run a dance studio, which means she speaks our language. Wait until you hear you explain Facebook ads like choreography – such an aha moment! Like all conversations At The Barre we chat about personal and professional topics, anchoring on the work that Jennifer does and how she is helping me, and might be able to help you on All Things Social.

Happy New Year! Each year, about now, in between all the end of year / start of year hoopla, I start to think about a word that will guide me through the next year.
Focusing on a word can help discover what excites you, explore what challenges you and provide room for making peace and growth. In 2016 my word for the year was JOY. It changed my life and I kept it for four years as it served me so well. Joy is now simply part of everyday practice for me. This year (and the one before) was my word was EASE, and despite the obvious challenges, I did honour it 90% of the time. My catch phrase became “what would this look like if it was easy” I asked members of my Facebook Group ‘The Collective’ about their intention word, and share some of their answers (so if you need to steal some ideas, you’re in the right place) What might your word for 2022 be?

We are checking in every where we go lately (for me, mum of 3 on school holidays that equals supermarket, supermarket and err, the supermarket!) but Im here to ask you, when was the last time you checked in with yourself? In this solo episode I chat through the process I go through at the end of each month, but it is also something you can do at the end of the year.
Take a lead from the SAS and perform an After-Action Review – what went well, what didn’t and most importantly what would you change. If you would like a copy of my Monthly Check in Playsheet head to my Instagram @dancestudiosuccess or https://bit.ly/3yyJo8z

Canadian born Jessica McLaughlin travelled to Australia for a holiday over 15 years ago and never left! In today’s interview she talks about how she find herself here, in Sydney, running a successful dance studio, while navigating some of life’s hardest challenges, professionally and personally. Throughout our conversation Jess and I chat about
• Jess’ version of success and how it has changed throughout the years
• How she Jess learned to delegate through necessity
• That Relationship building is Jess’ guiding ‘why’
• And we both ponder, when to rest, and when to quit

One of my Strengths is ‘strategy’ and so I nerd out on all things planning. In November 4 we talked about why you should have a vision and today I’m talking about how you can bring that vision off the page and into reality.
Strategic Plans and 90-day plans have been game changing in my own Company, as they have allowed me to move the business forward while also sharing the responsibilities with key members of my team. If you are not sure how a Strategic Plan could work for you, please listen to this episode and let me convince you because as the saying goes if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

Melanie Gard is back At The Barre, and today we are talking about WHY we might be feeling like we are, and how to approach the upcoming January break.
Today’s word of the day was Spuddle, a useful verb from the 17th century that means to work feebly and ineffectively, because your mind is elsewhere or you haven’t quite woken up yet. To be extremely busy whilst achieving absolutely nothing.
