  • London calling - Will Low-emission zones be coming to your town too?
The City of London recently expanded its Ultra-Low Emission Zone on October 25, forcing those with non-compliant high-emissions vehicles to pay a daily fee of £12.50 to drive in the area. This is in addition to the daily Congestion Charge fee. IHS Markit experts explain what vehicles are subject to the charges and discuss whether schemes such as the above are forcing owners to purchase newer and greener vehicles. They also reveal the cost of the alternative: retrofitting your vehicle with technology that will make it ULEZ compliant. Wider implications, including the uptake of EVs and forcing high-emissions vehicles to the next town via second-hand sales, may also mean that low-emission zones could be adopted in cities in and outside of the UK. Tune into this week's episode of Autology to see how you're impacted. Speakers: • Graham Evans, Supply Chain Technology director at IHS Markit • Michael Southcott, powertrain component expert at IHS Markit We'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode at our [email protected] email, and you can find out much more across the autotechinsight.ihsmarkit.com website.

  • Chain reaction – Is e-mobility threatening auto suppliers?
This week's episode explores how the move towards a greener society is negatively impacting the automotive industry – in particular, for the companies who manufacture and supply car parts. As the European Commission rolls out its Green Deal – a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to levels in 1990 – OEMs are being forced down the fully electric vehicle narrative. While the environment will benefit, the automotive supply chain is shrinking as carmakers manufacture e-mobility components in-house and new partnerships between suppliers and OEMs are consolidating the industry. Autology's special guest Sigrid de Vries, secretary general of CLEPA (the European Association of Automotive Suppliers) explains how the EU's deadlines are worrying for her members and how more should be done to protect those companies losing out from the bloc's move towards carbon neutrality by 2050. While Matteo Fini, IHS Markit's vice president of Automotive SCT (Supply Chain and Technology) and Aftermarket, also reveals which suppliers will likely be the winners and losers from electrification. Speakers: Sigrid de Vries, secretary general of CLEPA Matteo Fini, vice president of Automotive SCT (Supply Chain and Technology) and Aftermarket at IHS Markit We'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode at our [email protected] email, and you can find out much more across the autotechinsight.ihsmarkit.com website.
