Avenue Red

Avenue Red's BIG 200 10x mix compendium takes further form with the addition of another set of sonic shapes and moods from the Manchester-based deepness merchants, Quadrant Soundscape AKA Tommy "Asphalt Layer" Harrison & Wilson Logan. These are also the guys who are behind the excellent mix show, Dub Explorations, whose events at Eastern Bloc Records have been involving Avenue Red's own Alec Pritchard on the regular lineups during the last 18 months. This is the duo's second contribution to the podcast with yet another stunning gourmet of tripped-out, dubbed-out weapons.

"Thanks to Alec for the opportunity to be part of the 200th Avenue Red Podcast release. For this mix we wanted to showcase the deeper and moodier side of our record collection. We wanted to put together a nice solid 75 minutes of low slung, hypnotic grooves that give a nod to some of our favourite producers and the innovators who have come before us." Avenue Red's BIG 200 steamroller rolls on to DJ mix 5/10 with the 7th contribution from London-based resident selector, Josh Lentink. In keeping with his trademark sound, here we have another colourful, enlightened, melodically rich mixture of deep house, techno, electro, IDM and breaks in this CD-length payload of divine cuts from Josh's glowing and diverse collection.

"This mix was recorded with a lot of new records (as new mixes often do) and a few oldies chucked in. I decided to bring the tempo down a bit but didn't want full on chug. I think it builds nicely and gets wonkier and wonkier. Tracks from some artists that are currently exciting me - Ronan, Rat Heart, Hoavi & Anatolian Weapons. Enjoy", Josh Lentink, June 2022

Avenue Red welcomes another long-time friend for his debut, a man who now lives in the city of Newcastle, England where Avenue Red began 9 years ago... the man behind one of the most thorough, exhaustive and most admired deep/dub techno channels out there in the wilderness of SoundCloud... enter Steve Gemmell AKA Poisonoise Music for the BIG 200!

Here in true Poisonoise fashion, we have a perfectly-crafted 65 minutes of slow burning, deep, dreamy, hypnotic sounds... always very spooky and eerie, Steve is the master of generating an intriguing sonic witches brew laced with all manner of narrow-eyed nefariousness. This mix is no exception.

Electronic music specialist Andrea Cichecki is an artist inspired by sound. Born in the Netherlands with Polish roots, Andrea has had a lifelong fascination with emotion, human connection and how these intertwine with music and sound.

Her atmospheric music can be described as a dreamful sound collage, lifting us away into a flow of emotions. The musical intent is built on a landscape that sweeps from intense joy to melancholic emotion, a cinematic journey of life and memories. Andrea’s main inspiration is the inner peace found through connection with nature.

For over two decades, Andrea performs as a DJ across Europe. For seven years, she lived in Berlin where she was integral to the electronic music scene and a regular DJ playing in renowned clubs such as Club der Visionaere, Hoppetosse, Tresor and About Blank. After successful releases of her own music, she knew it was time to follow her dreams.

Achieving a diploma for her studies in ‘Music Production & Sound Engineering’ at the Abbey Road Institute helped her enrich her sound, expand her creative mind and build on her professionalism.

These days Andrea is in high demand as a music producer and audio engineer: composing, mixing, mastering as well as working at Castle Studios in the countryside, just outside Dresden.

Long-time friend of Avenue Red, Alex Volar from Perm City in Russia is back with a blinding, mind-bending, rhythmically gymnastic house/techno mix for the BIG 200!

Alex was tuned into our frequencies as a listener for many years, then became a guest in a very well-received B2B session with his hometown compatriot S.Aers [https://soundcloud.com/saers_saers] (mix link below). It's great to have a special, laser-focused, mindful solo mix from this talented young digger & selector... he knows how to create the precision amount of energy and hold it tight, manoeuvring through an impressive spectrum of early-days tech house-inspired deep 4/4 tracks, revealing his illustrious DJ's toolkit of the dark arts along the way.

After 9 solid years of releasing the finest, deepest, dopest, most dubbed-out and trippy underground DJ mixes from around the globe... we finally hit the BIG 200 milestone and we are doing it BIG in style, quality AND quantity - all at the same time. Avenue Red will deliver 10 mixes in rapid succession from 10 different selectors, some of which are returning and some delivering their long-awaited debut.

First up, we welcome the return of the seasoned Berlin deep house Admiral known as Estimulo. Dishing his second contribution to the series, this is a captivating, soul-warming, moving, grooving extended mix of totally obscure, forgotten or at least bloody well hidden four-to-the-floor gemstones.

"It's a real exception for me to do a mix of a duration of more than let's say 90 mins for a podcast, but the cause deserves it. I tried to jam-pack this mix with as many of my slightly more unknown 'deep techy house' secret weapons as possible and when alec came back saying that he hardly knows anything in the mix then I knew that I succeeded. Happy 200th birthday to Avenue Red and here's to many more!" Estimulo, June 2022

Avenue Red Podcast welcomes a dedicated veteran crate digger/DJ from the American Midwest city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin... Andrew Pearce AKA The Hermit enters the fray with a mix full of deep, jazzy, summery house music of the solid gold bullion variety.

Andrew is the man behind the No Coast Muzik underground collective, mix series & events umbrella over in Madison and in his hometown, where he has also been throwing the monthly Retrospect parties for 10 years at some of the city's top clubs, including Studio 200. He also broadcasts his regular DJ livestream called Gravitate Sessions from JiggyJamz Vinyl in Madison, which has been running for over 6 years now.

A man with over 10k records in his collection; behind hundreds of mixes released online; pushing countless events, large and small; a name like The Hermit can mislead... he is a committed and very knowledgable music head lifer, a valued repository of underground music (see his website, link below), tirelessly grafting to get so much good and obscure stuff out there into the wild... out of the unique kind of hermitage that all too often occurs when life gets in the way and the vast collections of diggers' music is left to collect dust, unseen and unheard.

Enjoy this perfectly worked mix and keep your eyes open for the BIG 200 that follows next week, exactly 9 years after the inception of Avenue Red!!! It's going to be intense.

"This mix is a throwback to the late 90's Midwest Deep House sound... Uptempo Jazz, Soul and Disco infused bliss with quick blends and long play masterpieces that take you on a journey with a few surprises along the way. It contains B-Sides and lesser known gems from master craftsmen mixed in traditional fashion... Vinyl, DITC and recorded in 1 take with no edits. N-joi the ride =]" Andrew Pearce, June 2022

Avenue Red boss Alec Pritchard is back with another carefully chosen selection for the 1210 series (a reference to Technics 1210 turntables), where the DJ plays 12 records that are all 10+ years old. Strictly vinyl only, this sister series serves to unearth some forgotten gems from labels and artists of yesteryear that have been hidden from view, buried by the sands of time... 12 of Alec's personal deep house favourites of all time have been given a new life in this special mix, where the mixing is kept simple, letting the records spread their wings and play out in full to show their true magic.

Avenue Red welcomes the return of WarmState Records label boss and DJ known as NEZ (real name Amaury Rondon) from Santo Domingo, the tropical, vibrant capital city of The Dominican Republic. Here for his second contribution to the main podcast series, Amaury takes us through a wormhole of aquatic, tripped-out dub techno grooves.

"In this second opportunity to collaborate with Avenue Red, I present a session that immerses you in a Dub and Deep Techno story telling a hypnotic progression that encourages deep sound dancing. A selection of incredible tracks that make you see the gray and atmospheric sounds of the deepest music." Amaury Rondon, May 2022
