  • Avenue Red Podcast #085 - 4Eggz
For the 85th Avenue Red Podcast episode we present a previously (to us) unknown quantity, a record collector & DJ known as 4Eggz from the North Bavarian city of Nuremberg in Germany. Here he presents a proper heads-down selection of deep, dubby House & Techno - a driving, pulsating set executed with real taste and panache.
"Hi! I am 4Eggz, a DJ & vinyl collector living in Nuremberg, Germany. Happy to present my mix for Avenue Red. I recorded this on a Sunday afternoon, the set roughly including warm ambient, breaks & dubs. Contains some great records by Pola, Jay Bliss, Steve O'Sullivan, Monomood, Idealist, David Hausdorf, an unknown artist on Mystic Versions label, Luke Hess, Joel Alter and Alek S. You can hear me play varied styles at local clubs and bars in my city. Resident at LIBT and Studio Eins/NBGROOVES (all based in Nuremberg). Greets... RV." Robin Vieregge, March 2017

  • Avenue Red Podcast #084 - Nicky Mann
Avenue Red are pleased to push out some local North East talent with this deep, dubby, punchy, driving mix of house music from Ctrl resident, Nicky Mann.
"This mix was put together with the sort of records I play on a typical night at Newcastle nightspot The Tanners Arms, where I am one of the residents. The pub has a very eclectic and open music policy, hosting events across the spectrum of genres including house & techno nights to dub/drum & bass, Balearic & disco nights too.
As the crowd is so open-minded you can be very varied as reflected in this mix. After the dubby start I was picking up records more on impulse for how I felt at that time (which probably shows). The Tanners is actually where I first met Alec so this vibe seemed like a good place to start.
I'm resident at Ctrl which is a Newcastle-based house & techno night, it's been running for years and was the creation of Damien Walker and Neil Scott. I joined them around 5 years ago and since then we have welcomed exclusive guests to Newcastle like techno heavyweight Rødhåd and also UK techno legend Mark Broom. Due to country changes and some growing up for Damien and Neil, myself and fellow Avenue Red podcaster Rob Moller are still picking up the Ctrl parties until they decide to return." • Avenue Red Podcast #083 - Alessandro Crimi
We welcome back Avenue Red resident and Waehlscheibe label boss Alessandro Crimi for his first mix of 2017 and his 5th mix for the series, coming after his much loved "timeless summer soundtrack" mix (https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-069-alessandro-crimi) from July 2016. Here he delivers a mix that he says is "housey, melancholic, mystical and deep as ever... but not so happy".
Alessandro has been a busy man as ever, with the 9th release on his label - Thomas Wood's "Rooted In The Past" EP - just out and with a new EP in the pipeline, the details for which are to remain a secret for now we are told! Alessandro also has a track called "FractalClouds" coming out on Federsen's excellent Fifth Interval label (FIFTH004 - samples here: https://soundcloud.com/federsen/sets/fifth-interval-various-artists), where he features alongside Tomas Rubeck, Beat Pharmacy (i.e. Brendon Moeller) and Federsen himself. In good company there, another solid label in the making we feel. Enjoy the mix!

  • Avenue Red Podcast #082 - Alec Pritchard
Avenue Red's very own Alec Pritchard is back with another of his trademark selections of deep, dreamy House & Techno records. Get ready for 75 minutes of straight-up ethereal, dubbed-out, melodic drifters.
"Most of this selection is made from old personal favourites in my wide collection of deep, trippy, spaced-out music that I never found the right moment to play out or slot into any recorded mixes. So, here's a one-off, impulsive mix of that kind of good stuff played slow and groovy... let me know if you want any track ID's :)" Alec Pritchard, February 2017

  • Avenue Red Podcast #081 - Meneses
After a winter shutdown the Avenue Red Podcast gets an increment via a fresh, punchy, stripped back Tech House session from a young DJ from Lima, Peru known as Meneses (real name Luis Meneses). At only 20 years old Meneses has already found some acclaim in his vast Pacific-coast city, most notably as a member of the Undersound Peru collective, which attracts a proper underground following of musically clued-up party people to Casa Galeria El Tábano - one of the key nightclubs in the Peruvian capital. This is the first mix we have featured from a South American DJ and were very interested to hear what it would contain when it appeared in the inbox... considering that you can hear it for yourself here, clearly we liked it!
This is a smooth ride through some very direct, minimalistic and bare-boned clubby tracks that resemble cold, steel frameworks encrusted with their own characteristic embellishments. Picture each track as being like a unique electricity pylon structure (beats) decorated with it's own selection of subtle lights that shimmer and glow in a haze (synths/melodies/other elements)... hearing the set is like staring out of a fast moving train window, seeing them drift past your gaze: a consistently flowing image made of seamlessly connected entities, gently floating and modulating by with a beautifully kaleidoscopic quality. Just relax and let it wash over you.
"I like to focus on pushing music from fresh artists who deliver quality, punchy, groovy tracks with spaced out deepness. The night, the darker hours, the distant city lights flickering... it's my inspirational zone where I really get into the music. I search create a unique and electric atmosphere in my sets, music that drives forwards in the club yet also sounds great in the headphones. This mix was recorded with 2 x Vestax CDX05 with 1 and an Allen & Heath XONE:92 mixer. I hope you enjoy the tunes!" Luis Meneses, January 2017

  • Avenue Red Podcast #080 - Janne Rasi
For the last Avenue Red Podcast of 2016 we finally have a specially crafted mix from Janne Rasi, a very tasteful collector/selector who comes from the Finnish capital city of Helsinki.
We first became aware of Janne's discerning blend of soulful, deep, murky House music from hearing his "Street Party" contribution to the 2014 Discogs DJ Mix Competition, which we were very taken by and thus asked him for a mix back then. Just over 2 years later and our inbox becomes aglow with a lovely mix from out of the blue that here follows the maverick selection from Rubsilent, who won that competition back in 2014! We absolutely love this mix, such a high quality addition to our pile of digital mixtapes to close 2016 with.
"I've been searching for and playing records for 15 years now. Deep House is the core of most of my sets with exceptions where they fit, especially with Techno and Disco. Different events, moods and locations are calling for different music and I like it that way. I'm occasionally playing somewhere in Helsinki or more frequently streaming online, which is a casual way to satisfy the need of spinning wax.
On this mix, I was probably influenced by the Finnish winter landscape. This is a selection of atmospheric, melancholic Deep House. Obviously something for your mind, your body and your soul. It was mixed at my place with three decks at one shot without any post editing. 100% vinyl as usual." Janne Rasi, December 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #079 - Rubsilent
Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey is back with his 5th contribution to the series with another marathon session of absolutely blinding tunes, new and old.
"As year 2016 draws to a close I'd say it's been another great year for quality tunes coming from genres that I follow. In fact this may be the year where I have set a new personal record for total records purchased! I felt like blending new additions to my collection with some older pieces as usual and instead of travelling between completely different genres, I kept it mainly house oriented this time.
The mix comprises many different moods of house from tough acid bangers to spaced out deepness. After building things up steadily in the first 90 minutes I got locked in. The inspiration and mood was flowing perfectly and I didn't feel like stopping, so I cut deeper back into my crate of selections and continued spontaneously 'till the natural conclusion was reached." Hamza Solim, December 2016.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #078 - Verdant Recordings
Avenue Red welcome Verdant Recordings back for his fourth contribution, which is his third for the main series (see links below). Here we have a real feast of fresh, deep, intricate techno that feels very cold, icy, stark, lonely, isolated... glacial, even? Stand out in the cold winter air and stare out over a cityscape from a good viewpoint, let dusk draw in as the distant lights begin to glitter and shimmer though your misty exhale as this mix feeds your ears via some quality headphones. Then you'll see what we mean.
PS. Thanks to Anastasia Diomidova (https://soundcloud.com/perfectly-perfect) from Cheboksary, Russia for providing the very unique and fitting photograph for the artwork!

"Rich, dark and light textures, intricate drum patterns, sometimes broken... Mostly contemporary techno but with some soul and movement to fall into." Andy Green, November 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #077 - Roberto Vitrani
Returning for the second time on the Avenue Red series is Italian selector Roberto Vitrani from the south eastern coastal town of Manfredonia. A hardened veteran vinyl collector, Roberto has collected House & Techno ever since the inception of these genres. Here he takes us through a mad selection of House music that is weird, twisted, jazzy, deep, trippy, funky, smooth, groovy and even "tropical", if you will.
"I am happy to propose for the second time another session done simply and strictly on vinyl, the one and only way for me to play!!! Currently I work with my young music project 'Associazione XY' trying to bring novelty in my small town.
I always keep my eyes and ears open in the search of interesting vinyl anywhere I go... at flea markets, in record stores, charity shops, online... anywhere that can serve in my quest of enriching my collection of interesting music. I wish you good listening to all. I am honoured to collaborate and share with you through Avenue Red." Roberto Vitrani, November 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #076 - O'laru
The Avenue Red Podcast presents Romanian selector O'laru, who hails from the large port city of Constanta on the Black Sea coast. George has a wicked collection of deep, melodic, minimal and atmospheric house records that are right in the Avenue Red groove. With an ultra smooth mixing style, he takes you on a trip here that would work just as well on the dancefloor as it would in your headphones or on your Hi-Fi.
"I started to listen to and collect electronic music since I was 13-14 years old. I'm digging for music almost each day, I think it has become like a way of life for me to look each day for new stuff that fascinates me. My sound is influenced by the sound of artists like Zip, Moodymann, Raresh and Matthew Herbert. I have some rare gigs yearly around the Black Sea coast, Bucharest and Cluj Napoca.
During the mix, I tried to create an atmosphere which represents me the most in terms of sound. The selection was made between some of my all time favourite tracks and some interesting ones which I found just recently. I hope you'll enjoy the journey!" George O'laru, November 2016
