  • Avenue Red Podcast #067 - Kayne
Kayne, a young collector/selector from Southampton in England shows us his unique fusion of Disco, Funk, Leftfield Jazz and Deep/Acid House... and it totally makes sense! It is beautifully adventurous and we have great admiration for the way these tracks are all so carefully knitted together, even if you might have first felt they shouldn't have all lived together in the same hour-long mixtape... like a multi-coloured patchwork quilt of records that have seemingly clashing colours and patterns but, you then notice that you feel all warm 'n' cosy wearing it... and you just don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks.
"Hello to all Avenue Red listeners! The mix was recorded a couple of weeks ago from my own home on a nice sunny day. As always when playing, my main focus is to maintain the flow as well as keeping it exciting for the people listening/dancing. The mix starts quite mellow gradually progressing but exploring all the things in my library which I enjoy and, naturally, I hope you do too! ;)
    Upcoming gigs:
    Egg, London, 24th June
    Junk Club, Southampton, 25th June
High Tide Garden Party, Southampton, 9th July

  • Avenue Red Podcast #066 - Josh Lentink
Josh Lentink is back with his 3rd contribution for Avenue Red, bringing yet more golden Deep Techno cuts spliced with some ace Electro inclusions.
"I recorded an initial version of this mix a few weeks ago but the vibe got a bit lost towards the end. I then waited for a few records I'd ordered to arrive before finishing it off. There are plenty of new releases from the likes of The God's Planet, Leif, and E.R.P., as well as some older tracks from Speedy J, Aril Brikha and Vince Watson. Expect deep techno, house and electro. Thanks very much for listening! :)" Josh Lentink, January 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #065 - Korotkov
The mysterious record collector/selector known as "Korotkov" steps up with something deep, fresh, vibrant and bright. From the city of Lipetsk in Russia, located on the banks of the Voronezh River in the Don basin (438 kilometers southeast of Moscow), Korotkov brings us a blissful hour+ of dreamy, trippy, sweetly melodic 4/4 gems.
Following on from his contributions for other well-respected podcast imprints including the Russian Dub Techno powerhouse Hello Strange; also Deep Electronics from Holland, this one is not to be missed - this applies especially to the "deep heads" out there!
"Hi. It is just a mix. :) It is all about spring-summer vibes, in my mind, and that's all. I started buying vinyl early 2014 and, in the main, I am collecting dub techno and deeper shades of house/techno. The mix is a soft, deep selection from my personal collection. Enjoy for the warmer, sunnier times!" Andrey Korotkov, May 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #064 - Alec Pritchard
The Avenue Red founder returns with mix 64, his second one on the series after doing episode 2 back in 2013... Here he presents a deep, balmy mix of summery House tunes to get us started for the warmer, sunnier part of the year!
"This mix was concocted during a small house party whereupon I had gotten the decks and some records out from storage... I did a rare session whilst making Mojitos for everyone who was there! Deep, dreamy, lost summery vibes that I love so much. Enjoy!" Alec Pritchard, May 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #063 - Mike Starr
For the 63rd Avenue Red Podcast we welcome DJ/Producer Mike Starr, an English expat in Berlin who has delivered a silky smooth mix of deep, vibrant, sensual House and Techno sounds. Mike has a great flow on the decks and his music choices are pretty broad - most importantly, the man has a good filter for quality and only the most tasteful materials make it through. Big-ups!
"So about me: Berlin-based since 2009 and DJ'ing since the last 15 years. Got my early break as a resident in one of the best clubs that London ever produced - The End/AKA Bar, which like many others sadly no longer exists. I play House, Disco, Techno and many other sub-genres that exist out there. For the past several years I have been producing & releasing music on Berlin-based label Casual Lab.
About this mix: It's an honour to feature a mix for Avenue Red. I have been listening for some time to the many, many talented DJ's that have had an opportunity to tell their individual story through their mixes. For me, I wanted to create an easy listening, non-intrusive mix that typifies how I approach a set; what influences me; what moves me; and how I want to create a journey - not to educate, but unique in a way to share with other like-minded listeners. It has a touch of dub here, a healthy dose of afro-centric beats there - all steeped in the heat of the sun that was beaming at the time I recorded the mix here in Berlin. I usually like to incorporate timeless tracks from the past and blend them with more recent offerings in my sets. This selection presented here is primarily a reflection of my time living in London in the 2000's through to the present day here in Berlin.
Last year was a great year for me: from playing a variety of gigs here in Berlin; an international showcase on Oahu in Hawaii alongside Rampue, Monolink, Soukie & Windish and many others, to having a remix released on Ellen Allien's BPitch Control for Argy & Mama alongside Alan Fitzpatrick and Rampa. Currently I am heavily engrossed in the studio honing my craft but already I am talking with some great labels about future EP's and remixes. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for some surprises to come!" Mike*, April 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #062 - Verdant Recordings
For the third time Avenue Red welcome back the immense iceberg of musical knowledge and sophisticated selectionism that is Verdant Recordings. We have been sitting on this mix for several weeks and have digested it and ground it down to some sort of atomic-level powder... we expect you to follow suit with this intergalactic mix of deep tunes.
"I made this mix a few weeks back, not long after Bloc and during the inevitable comedown that always follows. Music is a powerful mood changer, so this was simply about going through some tunes whilst recording the session. There wasn't any consideration to play 'happy' tunes (I don't have that many!), but it was more about getting into the headspace of genuinely enjoying a deep mix. There's some new tracks here from Frazer Campbell, Evigt Mörker, Dorisburg, an amazing remix by Edit-Select just out on Silent Season, which I've really been digging alongside gems from John Daly, Causa and Recondite. Enjoy the tunes and thanks for listening!" Andy Green, April 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #061 - Torsten Brinkmann
Seasoned record collector/DJ Torsten Brinkmann from Osnabrück, Germany turns his hand to Techno for the first time. A selection laced with deep, edgy lo-fi material and melancholic melodies.
"I am a 32 year-old unknown DJ, music lover and collector from Osnabrück, Germany. The mix was my first one that could be considered as Techno. I recorded this one on a Satarday night with a couple of beers and a good flow :) Normally I am more into Deep House and Lo-Fi Sounds, so it was a nice change and I had a lot of fun mixing my small collection of Techno tracks from the last month.
I started DJ'ing 15 years ago and did that for a while, like 8 years or so. Funky, Disco, French and Filtered House have been the genres I was playing back in the days. I took a long break then and focussed on other things like studying. That was the time when the big "Electro" wave came up... I really lost my interest in DJ'ing and electronic music in general through this period. Two years ago a couple of good friends invited me to a party called "Innervisions" at Robert Johnson. That was the night where I got a bit infected again. Since then I'm more into DJ'ing then ever before and I really love to dig for new and unique sounds." Torsten Brinkmann, March 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #060 - Rubsilent
Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey takes us on a slow-building trip through his amazing record collection with his 4th contribution to the series, taking us 60 deep. As far as we are concerned, Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) is probably the best DJ in the whole world. Fabric, Panorama Bar and other world stages of the underground: we urge you all to take note!
"I must've purchased dozens of records within the past few months but they just sit and collect dust. I hardly record a selection with them because I started to get bored with idea of putting out mixes on a constant basis, I began to feel like it's no different from running around in circles somewhat, you feel your mixes are easily drowned as the internet is over-loaded with music these days.
I keep purchasing the music that I feel on vinyl like always, from bangin' house to acid tracks, deepest house to chunky techno, but I hardly record any new sessions these days. I get to DJ out at clubs here in Istanbul but in order to play proper music for the heads at clubs in town, there has to be some decent afterhours club/small chill out room that's open-minded and receptive enough. The only trouble is you never really get both sides of the coin at one venue/event around here.
So, I decided to come up with a selection where I can set the mood for late nights but that restlessness in my soul made me squeeze some naughty beats here and there too, so here is the latest Avenue Red selection for you! Some dusty deepness or acid traxx from the vault, mixed with fresh purchases of both new and old new records." Hamza Solim, February 2016.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #059 - Dan Cugudda
For the 59th Avenue Red Podcast we bring a local lad from Durham to the fray with an immense selection of deep, cosmic electronic music. Mostly 4/4 but with some more broken and obscure tracks also in the blend... and the man doing the blending shows his exquisite taste, keen ear for a transition and a very steady hand on the 1's & 2's. If you are in the North East you can catch Dan playing at The Tanners Arms, Newcastle for Avenue Red on Saturday 26th March.
“I have been DJ'ing for 15 years now and since I was about 13 I've been hooked on electronic music. I grew up listening to a variety of music but was mostly onto UK techno and earlier, more underground trance and later Detroit techno music. I love how all of those genres have that underground feel but are also very accessible to the more casual listener.
The music I featured on this mix is stylistically different but has the same fundamental qualities: melodic, but with dark undertones, always with a spacey, cosmic feel. This is a constant theme when I DJ, whether I'm playing electro, house, techno or broken beat stuff! The mix is a blend of old and new: there's tracks in there from the early 90's and features records I have collected right up to the present day. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did mixing it! :)” Dan Cugudda, February 2016

  • Avenue Red Podcast #058 - Max Hummel
After a month-long hiatus we are back with more quality underground House & Techno mixes. For episoide #058 we present German selector Max Hummel with an infectiously deep & groovy selection of minimal tunes.
"I'm from Wiesbaden, Germany (near Frankfurt). Wiesbaden isn't known for quality underground music, it's rather sceneless here - there are no possibilities to buy some good wax or go to good parties. But a little crew of friends and myself founded a party series called 'Listen True Music' in 2013 (https://soundcloud.com/listen-true). To show that people get more than only the usual serving of commercial shit at the same locations every weekend, last year we booked as a special guest Steve O'Sullivan, founder of the legendary Mosaic label for our 2nd anniversary event.
This mix is full of minimal and deep house music. For my DJ sets I look for tracks with straight beats and some deep or dub sounds like in this mix. The most important thing for a good DJ set is that the sound will people tell an exciting story." Max Hummel, January 2016
